THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC (Title 32) Position Description Number Dand is part of the IL 182 AW National Guard.


Duties

As an AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC (Title 32) WGyou will you will maintain troubleshoot remove repair install certify test and perform operational checks on the turboprop engines propellers and associated propulsion system components.

Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:

  • Remove install certify repair modify overhaul and install turboprop engines reduction gear boxes turbine modules compressor modules auxiliary power units propellers and related components.
  • Perform maintenance on all propulsion systems including troubleshooting diagnosing defects certifying conducting bench checks and performing in-shop and on-equipment repairs and overhauls.
  • Determine the extent of disassembly necessary to repair overhaul replace and certify engine propeller and auxiliary power unit parts.
  • Assemble engines propellers and auxiliary power units by adhering to prescribed procedures torque values safety methods and clearances.
  • Modify engines propellers auxiliary power units and components in accordance with Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTO) directives.
  • Diagnose malfunctions using computerized test equipment schematic diagrams and technical publications then perform appropriate repairs.
  • Evaluate technical problems of repair overhaul modification and installation of aircraft propulsion systems.
  • Perform operational checks of installed propellers engines auxiliary power units and subsystems during aircraft maintenance ground runs.
  • Interpret certification findings and determine adequacy of corrective action.
  • Evaluate engine and propeller performance by computing torque specific fuel consumption RPM and turbine inlet temperature.
  • Employ test equipment such as computer borescope fuel pressure gauges air pressure gauges and alignment fixtures.
  • Utilize special tools and precision measuring equipment high-pressure hydraulic test equipment and electronic test equipment.
  • Perform dynamic propeller balancing and test propeller integrated synchophasing.
  • Test variable potentiometers servo-motors indicators and aircraft wiring.
  • Review and assist in maintaining Technical Orders (TOs) and other technical publications and directives pertinent to propulsion systems.
  • Interpret diagrams blueprints wiring schematics and technical publications to perform repair and maintenance.
  • Prepare man-hour data collection and required forms for input into automated maintenance systems (CAMS/G081).
  • Provide on-the-job training and conduct formal classes of instruction in repair and maintenance of engines propellers auxiliary power units and related equipment.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of training through observation written tests and oral examinations.

    • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement.     • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
    • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
    • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

    • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance.

    Qualifications

    AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code 709) will be in the following manner and sequence:

    • The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
    • The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
    • The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
    • The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
    • The FIFTH area of consideration will be U.S. Citizens.


    Military Grades: Enlisted Only - Minimum rank requirement of SrA & May not exceed the rank of TSgt.

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level - MUST possess experience or training performing standard assembly and disassembly operations and prescribed modifications to aircraft engines assemblies and accessories. Experience or training in maintenance overhaul troubleshooting testing and repair of aircraft engines components and powertrains for fixed and/or rotary-wing aircraft. Experience determining maintenance needs from work orders inspection reports historical records and diagnosis.


    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.
