Job Summary

Summary

This position is located in the Senate Office Buildings Tenant Services Division Painting Branch. The Painter-Refinisher Leader will lead a team of painters and refinishers while overseeing painting and refinishing projects.


Duties

Painter-Refinisher Leader Functions

As a working leader the selectee is responsible for the following functions/duties:

-Passes on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started by distributing the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the work group.

-Ensures that needed plans blueprints materials and tools are available and that needed materials are obtained.

-Maintains current knowledge on procedures policies written instructions and other directives.

-Ensures that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew fully occupied.

-Checks work while in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisors instructions on work sequence procedures methods and deadlines have been followed.

-Reports to supervisors on status and progress of work and causes of work delays.

-Answers questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems.

-Creating and closing work orders

Painting Advice and Guidance

-Reads andfollows complex blueprints job orders and specification sheets to make accurate calculations and adjustments to materials paint and equipment for each area involving decorative striping colors refinishing etc.

-Keeps in daily contact with site-based customers to ensure safe working conditions for workers and the public while working on scaffolds ladders and area work platforms.

Painting and Refinishing

-Performs complex coating work using any of the accepted methods of the trade such as graining shadowing and shading colors. Matches and mixes colors by eye and/or with a tinting machine to match historical and faded colors. Ensures that surfaces have a smooth-texture and decorative appearance and meet thickness tone and density requirements for the project being performed.

-Applies decorative painting techniques to historical ornate designs in the Congressional Buildings Meeting and Hearing Rooms Members offices and other special purpose rooms. Refinishes and/or finishes walnut and mahogany doors metal doors and cabinets etc. to match historical natural wood finishes. Applies primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces such as bare wood or metal for finish coats.

-Applies paint stain varnish enamel and other finishes to equipment buildings decorative walls and doors and/or other structures using brushes spray guns or rollers.

-Complies with OSHA regulations and trade safety practices.
