This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) a student loan payment reimbursement program. The Supervisory Social Worker supervises social workers the majority of whom are professional staff at the GS-11 or GS-12 grade including advanced practice social workers and social worker program leads. They are responsible for the professional and administrative management of an area/multiple programs in a social work service at the outpatient clinic and specialty clinic. May be responsible for both professional and non-professional staff. They must be licensed at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for subordinate staff to qualify for licensure.
As the supervisor the incumbent assists in planning establishing and implementing policies and procedures; developing individual or group goals and objectives as well as monitoring operating evaluating coordinating and overseeing the Social Work staff of the clinics. The incumbent will assure the Social Workers whom they supervise are aware of adhere to all current directives of VHA and meet current JCAHO standards CARF standards State licensure standards and VA-OIG expectations. The incumbent will conduct ongoing intensive reviews and appraisals to ensure the accomplishment of objectives and adherence to standards set by governing bodies. Performs the administrative and personnel management function relative to staff supervised. Incumbent will have established guidelines and performance expectations for staff clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system. Observes workers performance; demonstrates and conducts work performance critiques. Provides informal feedback and periodically evaluates employee
performance. Incumbent works to resolve informal complaints and grievances. Develops work improvement plans recommending personnel actions as necessary. The supervisor provides advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters. Invokes disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. Reviews and approves or disapproves leave requests. Incumbent assures that subordinates are trained and fully comply with the provisions of the safety regulations. Incumbent supervises employees to accomplish the work of the organization unit. Exercises supervisor authorities and responsibilities involving work assignment and review as well as the administrative and personnel management functions relative to the staff supervised.
The incumbent performs a wide range of services and provides technical assistance to State local and private agencies and universities. Technical assistance provided to monitor activities and program reviews and the development and analysis of addition the incumbent uses sound judgment in the interpretation of trends and patterns; the application of guidelines; and the recommendation of program enhancements. The incumbent performs program analysis development review research design and contact work as possible with various agencies (public DOD state etc.).
This position reports directly to the to the Social Work Chief but practices independently exercising initiate and independent judgment in day-to-day activities.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave 13 days of sick leave 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
