Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Teach undergraduate core and elective courses in the areas of Community Health using traditional and distributed learning modalities.
  • Lead and coordinate the Community Health program. Develop interpret modify and implement policies and procedures; plan and secure resources for use in support of the program; design marketing and recruitment plan and materials; formulate articulation agreements with University of Hawaii campuses; and develop academic development plan for the program.
  • Conduct scholarly and research activities in areas related to teaching.
  • Participate in curriculum development activities including the development of curricular materials and special instructional methods.
  • Serve on program division and university committees.
  • Render service to the professional and community relevant to academic specialty.
  • Network with professional and community health organizations to develop additional practicum sites for student internships.
  • Serve as faculty advisor for students in the program.
  • Other related tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


  1. Earned doctorate from an accredited university in Public Health or a closely related discipline. An ABD will be considered provided applicant completes dissertation by date of hire.
  2. Teaching experience at the college or university level and demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  3. Evidence of excellence in teaching in the areas of community health.
  4. Evidence of scholarly and applied research activities related to the areas of teaching.
  5. Evidence of independence enthusiasm and self-direction.
  6. Ability to plan and organize assigned activities and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.


Desirable Qualifications:


  1. Ability to interact effectively in a multicultural setting; experience in working with various different communities and demonstrated excellence in teaching to students from varied backgrounds and cultures.
  2. Demonstrated ability to teach distance education courses.
  3. Experience with course assessment and institutional accreditation.
  4. Published research in peer reviewed journals in areas relevant to teaching.
