Job Summary

Summary

This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent is responsible for a diverse portfolio of enduring tasks supporting the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) and the Director for Strategy Plans and Policy (DJ5). Duties performed by this position are integral to the fulfillment of DD GIs strategy policy and plans development and implementation responsibilities in support of the CJCS and the Secretary of Defense (SecDef).


Duties

As a SUPERVISORY JOINT AND COMBINED STRATEGIC PLANNER at the GSsome of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Responsible for supporting DD GIs responsibilities to develop and implement strategies policies and plans in support of the National Security Strategy (NSS) the NDS and the National Military Strategy (NMS)
  • Collaborates coordinates and synchronizes information and actions related to policy operations intelligence and planning throughout the Global Integration portfolio.
  • Oversees and directs continual analyses of how Joint Force efforts support achievement of goals and objectives prescribed or implied by the NSS NDS and NMS as a part of a networked whole-of-government approach to strategic management of global threats.
  • Formulates objectives and essential milestones that enable U.S. Joint Force strategies policies and plans to address NDS global priority challenges through burden-sharing with select Ally and Partner Nations based on CJCS guidance.
  • Maintains direct interaction with relevant National Security Council (NSC) Staff counterparts and staff from other U.S. Government Department and Agency mission partners as well as key representatives from select Ally and Partner Nation militaries

  • Work requires travel up to 4 total weeks per year away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft to various CONUS and OCONUS locations.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-15 if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service:

  • Formulating developing and implementing strategies plans and policies; Interpreting strategies and policies revolving around the National Defense Strategy (NDS) and the National Military Strategy (NMS) to develop recommendations to senior level officials;
  • Presenting Congressional testimony responding to Questions for the Record and performing high level briefings and presentations; and executing projects within areas of interest and within established time constraints;
  • Plans and conducts studies and assessments to monitor and inform stability and peace operations policy strategy plans concept and doctrine development for the Joint Force;
  • Formulating objectives and essential milestones that enable U.S. Joint Force strategies policies and plans to address NDS global priority challenges through burden-sharing with select Ally and Partner Nations
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
