Job Summary

Summary

The Imaging Service Chief is responsible for leadership of Diagnostic Radiology lnterventional Radiology Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Oncology Sections for STVHCS. The position includes administrative and clinical duties and the individual is expected to maintain active clinical practice in Radiology.

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm
Telework: Ad-Hoc (Occasional or Irregular basis)
Virtual: This is not a virtual position.

Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized


Requirements

Conditions of employment

    • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

    • Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process. Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements ( Effective May 7 2025 drivers licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
    • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
    • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
    • You may be required to serve a probationary period.

    Qualifications

    Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

    Podiatrist Basic Requirements

    • Education: Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine or its equivalent from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. AND
    • Residency Training: Completed or currently completing residency training or its equivalent approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education the Council on Podiatric Medical Education in the list published for the year the residency was completed or (2) Other residencies and training experiences or their equivalents which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. AND
    • License: Currently hold or will hold a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State Territory or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
    Preferred Experience:
    • Board Certified in General Radiology or Specialty
    • At least 5 years of practice out of residency/fellowship and and proficient in mutli-modality and multi-organ system radiology more preferred.
    • At least 2 years of direct supervisory experience (non-GME/UME)
    • At least 2 years of undergraduate and or graduate supervisory experience
    • Excellent references with at least two from current/past supervisor
    • Be available in San Antonio by Spring 2026

    Education

    Applicants must possess a doctor of podiatric medicine degree or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in podiatric medicine and surgery. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.

    Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine and surgery approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education of the American Podiatry Medical Association in the year in which the degree was granted.
