Duties

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the DC Air National Guard.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: You must meet the minimum military rank as specified in this announcement. The National Guards full-time support program requires that all military technicians are members of the National Guard and are appointed to full-time positions which correspond to their military assignments. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership.

Minimum Military Rank: E-3/A1C
Maximum Military Rank: E-5/SSgt

Other requirements: For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles candidates must have a valid state drivers license for the state in which they live or are principally employed. For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within One (1) year of appointment.

This position is located in the Egress Systems Shop of the Aerospace Systems Section Field Maintenance Branch Aircraft Maintenance Division. The primary purpose of this position is to perform on and off equipment maintenance on aircraft egress systems such as aircraft ejection seats extraction and escape systems egress components of jettison canopies explosive components of escape hatches and doors and egress trainers.

Duties:

  • Troubleshoots installs removes repairs modifies adjusts inspects and tests such components as regulators flow indicators actuator motors thruster and positioning mechanisms seat actuators catapult guide rails ejection seats rocket packs and canopies
  • Inspects pressurization system air pressure gauges for sufficient pressure and bottles and regulators for general condition and serviceability
  • Performs installation modification and repair of aircraft egress systems.
  • Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as ORI IC and UE inspections mobility and command support exercises.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military rank and assignment in the District of Columbia Air National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the applicants ability to repair malfunctions of ordnance equipment and components. Ability to use sketches electrical diagrams technical specifications and engineering drawings. Experience which demonstrates skill in the use of test equipment to make electrical hydraulic and pneumatic checks.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training in planning and layout of repair sequence and ability to complete modification repair and installation of ordnance systems. Experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting malfunctions and determining remedies where complex relationships exist. Experience in hand tools and the use of a variety of measuring and test equipment. Experience in interpreting technical directions blueprints sketches wiring diagrams and manufacturers specifications
