This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil addition ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. The primary purpose of this position is:to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) involved in the removing installing troubleshooting interrogating overhauling adjusting testing modifying calibrating and repairing of complex integrated aircraft pneudraulic systems and equipment on board conventional/nuclear certified aircraft supported by the organization and to provide training to and evaluation of all assigned personnel e.g. Active Duty Reservist Civilians Contractors and foreign military as required in the accomplishment of duties set forth herein.
DUTY 1:Conducts scheduled/unscheduled maintenance and periodic inspections on all pneudraulically operated systems on/off aircraft in accordance with established procedures. Performs visual inspections during calendar/hourly inspections (phase/isochronal Home Station Checks Hourly Post Flight etc.) by inspecting such items as reservoir fluid level brake pucks/carbon disks for clearance/serviceability visual conditions of lines shock struts for fluid and height of piston level accumulators for air/nitrogen pressure removing filters and cleaning or replacing.
DUTY 2:Performs troubleshooting of complex integrated pneudraulic systems of related on/off equipment for assigned and/or transient aircraft to include support equipment.
DUTY 3:Performs off-equipment maintenance and bench checks to support the repair cycle. Disassembles pneudraulic system components by removing items such as: covers poppets springs seals pistons valves and valve seats etc.
DUTY 4:Utilizes safety practices and tool control procedures to maintain a safe and clean work area. Strictly adheres to safety procedures and regulations and promptly reports any observed or identified violations in accordance with established guidelines.
DUTY 5:Prepares/executes effective training plans to maximize training for all assigned personnel Duty Reservist Civilians Contractors and foreign military. Complies with required instruction guidanceand/or training and provides instruction guidance and training to others while maintaining personal qualifications.
In order to qualify you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C for WG-8200 FLUID SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE GROUP.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the FLUID SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE GROUP. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is: the ability to do the work of an Aircraft Pneudraulic Systems Mechanic without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge skills abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Skill and knowledge in the use of standard hand and power tools/equipment materials accounting and security.
3. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data and Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures. Ability to remove and install aircraft pneudraulic systems equipment or accessories.
4. Comprehensive knowledge of operation capabilities and limitations of aircraft pneudraulic systems. Ability to use a variety of test and measurement equipment ability to test complete pneudraulic systems.
5. Ability to document in aircraft forms/MIS clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work. Ability to overhaul repair calibrate or fabricate aircraft pneudraulic equipment.
6. Ability to troubleshoot aircraft pneudraulic equipment of moderate complexity. Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable standards regulations and technical orders.
