Job Summary

Summary

The primary purpose of the position is to perform the operation installation repair modification and preventative and corrective maintenance of residential and commercial electronic systems consisting of a wide variety of components devices antennas and fixtures in historic and modern buildings offices housing units etc. and in open park areas.


Duties

  • Performs all preventative maintenance operational checks repair layout installation troubleshooting tracing locating defects and modification on all new and existing electronic systems park wide.
  • Incumbent must be able to appropriately apply the applicable standards codes and regulations to select the correct materials and methods for installation maintenance repair modification or upgrade of covered systems.
  • Plans and lays out the routing placement type and size of devices fixtures wire etc .
  • Establishes and maintains an extensive supply of parts sensors panels wiring order to facilitate maintenance of the different intrusion alarm systems and the intrusion two-way radio reporting system Park-wide.
  • Responsible for performing initial acceptance testing of new fire alarm systems and all other systems certification testing required on an annual biannual or longer bases.
  • Provides and maintains a supply of replacement radio parts (i.e. batteries battery chargers antennas etc.).
Physical Demands: Work assignments involve standing walking climbing crawling sitting stooping and often requires working for extended periods of time in cramped awkward positions and inside narrow confined areas. Some duties require extended periods of deskwork.

Working Conditions: Most work is performed indoors and usually in well lighted climate controlled well-ventilated areas. However some work is performed in narrow cramped or tunnel like areas basements crawl spaces and under emergency conditions or outdoors. Most work is performed during normal office hours except during emergencies when unusual hours overtime or night tours of duty may be required.

    • Incidental Drivers License: You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists) you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued drivers license that is current and has not been revoked suspended canceled or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued drivers license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation and again every year or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities) and at your own expense all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid drivers licenses whether current or past possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State drivers license.
    • Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
    • Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
    Probationary/Trial Period: As a condition of employment for accepting this position you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.

    To qualify for this position you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

    SCREEN OUT: Ability to perform inspections of electronic equipment use test equipment to diagnose malfunctions troubleshoot to determine cause of malfunction; Inspections include but not limited to: smoke detectors heat detectors fire signaling systems fire alarm system control panels infrared detectors ultrasonic detectors photoelectric detectors pressure mats magnetic contacts intrusion alarm control panels two way radio alarm signaling systems closed circuit TV water sprinkler both wet and dry fire suppression systems and Halon fire suppression systems; Interpret plans blueprints wiring diagrams engineering drawings repair manuals and related codes. Completing repairs of electronic equipment using hand and power tools.

    A Relocation Incentive May Be Authorized for a Federal employee when the employee must move as directed by the National Park Service (NPS) either through a management directed reassignment or selection for employment to a different location at least 50 miles away from the one where his/her position of record held at time of selection is currently located due to a need of the NPS. A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and as such may be granted in conjunction with one another.


    Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).
