Summary of Duties
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice role designed to contribute to the quality of patient care through practice research and education. The NP promotes wellness and health promotion and provides exemplary quality care through the application of advanced clinical and theoretical knowledge and skills. The NP practices in a manner that reflects the Mission Vision and Values of Sunnybrook and in compliance with the professional standards of nursing practice as defined by the hospital and College of Nurses of Ontario.
The current emphasis of this role is direct patient care including the daily clinical management of a defined group of cardiac surgery patients and the coordination of interdisciplinary patient addition the Nurse Practitioner collaborates with the Patient Care Manager Clinical Educator and/or Advanced Practice Nurse and CVICU team to enhance nursing practice through the development implementation and evaluation of best practices.
Qualifications/Skills
- Current College of Nurses of Ontario Certificate of Competence;
- Masters degree with Nurse Practitioner Certification;
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in cardiac surgery preferred;
- Current B.C.L.S and A.C.L.S.;
- Membership in R.N.A.O. or N.P.A.O.;
- Previous experience as a Nurse Practitioner an asset;
- Program planning and evaluation skills;
- Demonstrated research abilities;
- Demonstrated professional leadership and ability to be innovative and creative;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Ability to practice to full scope and also collaboratively with MRPs;
- Expertise in conflict management.
