Job Description
Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am-4pm (40 hours per week)
Position Summary
Reporting to the Painting and Masonry Supervisor the Masons work involves the building and repair of masonry structures composed of brick tile stone block and other materials.
Responsibilities
Points and repairs masonry on exterior and interior of structures including landscape site walls.
Fill expansion joints with the appropriate caulking materials.
Mix and apply plastering material to walls and ceilings tape sheetrock and repair damaged sheetrock walls.
Employ a wide variety of hand and power tools including hoists drills precision measuring instruments and electronic devices.
Coordinate with the Campus Architect to ensure the historical integrity of properties through application of masonry techniques and detailed cosmetic repairs.
Replace or reset existing loose stone or bricks on buildings or site walls.
Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Vassar College and departmental policies and procedures.
Responsible for communication and working effectively with other trades.
Required knowledge skills and abilities
High school diploma vocational training or equivalent.
Five years of experience as a tile installer mason and plasterer with significant experience on historic structures.
Knowledge of equipment materials methods practices and tools used in mason trade.
Must possess a valid New York State drivers license for at least 2 years.
Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding on all heights.
Ability to lift and carry at least 75 pounds.
Ability to perform repeated bending squatting stooping pushing and pulling.
Ability to stand and walk for a prolonged period of time.
Ability to communicate effectively in English including understanding speaking reading and writing.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently as well as in a team environment.
May require overtime as needed.
