Job Summary

Summary

This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC Position Description Number Dand is part of the NJ FMS 8 National Guard.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

Duties

As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC WGyou will:

Troubleshoot perform maintenance and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment
Troubleshoot equipment and diagnose the cause of mechanical failures
Remove and disassemble engines
Independently perform repairs and maintenance functions in remote locations
Conduct readiness and inspections on vehicles
Assist in the maintenance of production reports and recommendations
Instruct operator/crew in the maintenance of equipment and provides technical advice and assistance to supported units when requested.
Performs other duties as assigned.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing states National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Areas III: All Title 32 Employees within the New Jersey Army National

Military Grades: E-4 to E-7

Compatible Military Assignments: CMF:91
Selectee has two (2) years to obtain required MOS

Title 32 Dual-Status Positions: Compatible Military Assignments
Appointments may require the selected candidate to be assigned to a *military unit* compatible with the full-time Military Technician (Dual Status) position.

*Military Unit* -- The unit by which the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee; or a unit that the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee to support. (Guidance established by NJ HRO-J1)

Additional Employment Requirements:

Participation in direct deposit is mandatory
May be required to successfully complete a probationary period
Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation
Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs preventative maintenance use of common tools and equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Must have at least 18 months of specialized experience or training in the following areas:

Diagnosing repairing and modifying complex vehicles
Knowledge of diagnostic equipment
Solving complex maintenance and repair problems
Evaluating work performed on vehicles equipment and systems
