This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) a student loan payment reimbursement program. The Licensed Practical/License Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) will support the Acute Care Services at the Sumter location of the Wm Jennings Bryan Dorn Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Major duties include but are not limited to:
1) Oxygen administration if applicable
2) Adhere to the PACT Nursing Protocols within scope of practice.
3) Medication administration to include Immunizations.
4) Clinical reminders with appropriate consults and alerts as indicated.
5) Check expiration dates of meds and supplies.
6) Delegated procedures and treatments
7) Documentation
8) Assists with minor procedures including obtaining and arranging necessary equipment positioning patient ensuring comfort and privacy. Monitors patient during the procedure.
9) Promote whole health initiatives to include but not limited to Tele-MOVE Guided imagery
10) Conduct chart audits as assigned.
11) Participates in performance improvement initiatives.
12) Facilitates Clinical Video Technology appointments.
13) Check in and Check out Veterans on daily basis.
14) Collaborates with PACT team review future appointments.
15) Participates in daily huddles.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Physical Requirements: The population of male and female veterans served ranges from the adult age 18 to the elderly adult age 65 and over. Columbia VAMC is a major interdisciplinary teaching facility serving medical surgical and neurological inpatients and outpatients. There is a large outpatient psychiatric population with admissions for medical co-morbidities. This position requires mental and visual acuity keen hearing clear distinctive speech and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking (5-9 hours) standing (4-8 hours) stooping sitting repeated bending (2-4 hours) pulling (2-6 hours) and pushing (2-6 hours) kneeling (1-2 hours) twisting (2-4 hours) climbing (1-2 hours). Transferring patients and objects may be required. Lift 45 pounds or over carry 45 pounds or over; reaching above the shoulders emotional stability ability to distinguish basic and shades of color; The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium dementia or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature flexible sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
