Job Summary

Position Summary:

Supervise/manage day-to-day tasks and operations of diverse team of Damage Prevention Vehicle Inspector (DPVI) Drivers driving to various excavation sites to ensure compliance with New York State Code Rule 753 regarding the protection of underground facilities.

Essential Functions:

Field Supervisor

  • Effectively manage all day-to-day DPV program operations
  • Manage team members time off (PTO/Sick) review/approve time cards
  • Responsible for DPVI team performance evaluations
  • Oversight of GPS vehicle tracking (specifically with respect to after hours and weekends)
  • Assist OTM Fleet Manager as needed
  • Participate in interview process and selection of new DPVI Driver candidates
  • First point of contact for issue resolution of team members as it relates to DPVI programs
  • Perform routine face-to-face and phone meetings with team members
  • Communication throughout the day with Dispatcher(s) Area Division Supervisors and Contractors as needed
  • Conduct weekly DPVI team meetings
  • Attend/call-in to OTM Leadership Team meetings
  • Key liaison/interface with OTM Operations Manager and clients
  • Random field audits of team members work and training/re-training as required
  • Program equipment management: work with OTM office operations / IT for any equipment needs or issues
  • Daily/weekly written & verbal communications/coordination of program goals objectives issues etc with DPVI team
  • Daily/weekly reporting of program status as well as any other issues that may arise to the DPVI Operations Manager or the assigned fill-in person
  • Perform random safety inspections (ie. PPE vehicles etc) of team members
  • Encourage support and engage team in achieving program goal(s) OTM company and DPVI goals and objectives
  • Role may involve backfilling as DPVI Driver for employees out on personal/vacation time

Required Qualifications:

  • Able to effectively work with and supervise others
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good conflict resolution skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Aptitude for working with computers & software (incl. Microsoft Office programs)
  • Leadership/supervision experience a plus

Required NGA Qualifications:

Northeast Gas Association (NGA) Operator Qualification Tasks:

  • 1. Task 22B - Inspection of Third-Party Excavations for Damage Prevention
  • 2. Task 23/24 - Inspecting the Condition of Exposed Pipe
  • 3. Task 70 - 70A - Basic Abnormal Operating Conditions (Critical AOC) and 70B - Properties of Natural Gas
  • 4. Task 71 - Excavation & Backfill 5. T
  • 5. Task 85 - 85A-Meter Assembly Abnormal Operating Conditions (Critical AOC) and 85B-Meter Assembly Fundamentals and Substandard conditions

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The employee regularly works near and inside excavation areas and in outside conditions that include inclement weather heat and humidity. While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to suggest safe excavating practices and pass out literature pertaining to Code Rule 753. The employee frequently is required to use hands to operate or feel objects tools or controls is required to stand walk climb and balance. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
