POSITION SUMMARY:
The Security Officers primary assignment will be to monitor assist and support the implementation of Mount Vernon schools closed campus providing for student safety and helping to implement and support the districts discipline policies. Additional duties shall include student supervision during the school day and at various school activities as needed. The Security Officer will work closely with the school administrative team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with school aged students
- Ability and willingness to work with students from various backgrounds
- Organizational skills and flexibility to respond to changing student needs
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to handle student information in a confidential manner
- Excellent problem solving ability
- Valid Washington State Drivers License
- Ability to obtain valid CPR and First Aid card
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee student and visitor behavior in the parking lot on school grounds and/or building.
- Be visible and have a proactive approach to school discipline attempting to build positive relationships with students and parents.
- Enter and address low level discipline infractions in the schools data system and make student contacts.
- Use the building processes for restorative discipline.
- Ensure that students using parking lots are registered with school officials when applicable.
- Enforce closed campus regulations.
- Oversee removal of vehicles parked illegally or without proper authority.
- Greet visitors entering school grounds and directs them to appropriate school locations.
- Interact with students and maintain awareness of specific student rules and regulations; discuss problems; observe students for possible illegal substance use or signs of abuse; report situations requiring action to appropriate school administrator(s); assist local law enforcement officers on school grounds when appropriate.
- Maintain/clean on-site cameras when able.
- Compile data and prepare necessary reports.
- Work closely with administrators and head of security to provide timely coordinated and restorative support for student behavior in classrooms common areas and across campus.
- Provide backup support to administrators and staff in emergency situations.
- Perform such other duties as from time to time may be assigned.
