Job Summary

April - November 2026

We are currently recruiting for anAssistant LightingTechnician to work as a self motivated and driven member of the Lighting team to deliver high quality technical services to productions at Glyndebourne and any other venue where the company may perform.

To deliver the lighting requirements for all productions and projects to the highest standards including high standards of safety efficiency and operation.

Key Tasks andResponsibilities

  • Prepare rig focus operate maintain and troubleshoot lighting equipment including followspots
  • To operate as lighting technician for performances including assisting with scene changes as required.
  • To prepare and update accurate show notes cue sheets and other documentation as appropriate
  • To assist with rehearsals show changeovers and performances ensuring they are executed smoothly and to time
  • To assist in pre-production work (including installation of set electrics and construction of electrical props) when required
  • To prioritise workloads in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Provide support to other departments in their use of production lighting equipment.
  • To maintain backstage areas to the highest standard.
  • To work with an awareness of sustainability and environmental impact.
  • To work alongside others in a safe and efficient manner.
  • To work across 7 days including unsocial hours.
  • Any other duties as reasonably required.

Knowledge Skills andExperience

Essential

  • An ability and willingness to learn new skills
  • Formal technical theatre training or equivalent significant experience within a producing / receiving house
  • Knowledge of the use and maintenance of a range of professional lighting equipment
  • To be able to complete manual handling tasks safely.
  • To be able to work safely at height.
  • A basic understanding of electricity and electrical safety.
  • The ability to maintain a professional approach and behave diplomatically in a high stress environment
  • Proficient in the use of Windows Apple & Google computer systems.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must work excellently alone or as part of a team.
  • A high level of attention to detail.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • An awareness of large scale repertory theatre
  • The ability to work under minimum supervision
  • A knowledge of Eos range of lighting control consoles
  • Experience with intelligent lighting rigs and radio controlled practicals
  • Knowledge of safe rigging practices.
  • An understanding of theatrical control systems.
  • Experience followspotting large scale productions
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance.
  • An awareness of health and safety within a theatrical environment.
  • Training: ABTT Bronze Award IPAF Manual Handling Working at Height.

Hours of Work

The basic hours of work are 39 per week plus overtime. You will be required to work longer shifts over 6 days during the busiest periods.

Rates of Pay and Benefits

The hourly rate of pay is 13.12 per hour with aguaranteed weekly salary of642.88.

Overtime rates will apply for any shift longer than 8 hours a 6th day & Sunday working.

Over half a days paid holiday for each week worked (6.8 weeks holiday per annum pro rata inclusive of bank holidays).
