Caretaker – Orpington

We are seeking a reliable proactive and dedicated Caretaker to join a primary school in Orpington starting as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe clean and well-organised school environment and enjoys being part of a school community.

Senior leadership provides support and guidance ensuring that caretaking staff are valued and fully integrated into the school team. The Caretaker plays a key role in ensuring the school environment is maintained to the highest standards supporting the smooth running of the school on a daily basis.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the school site is safe clean and well-maintained at all times

• Carry out routine maintenance repairs and minor improvements

• Monitor and manage heating lighting and other building systems

• Supervise cleaning staff and ensure cleaning standards are maintained

• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations fire safety and risk assessments

• Lock and unlock buildings and manage security of the site

• Support the set-up and take-down of school events and activities

• Maintain equipment and report major maintenance issues to senior leadership

• Liaise with contractors suppliers and external service providers as needed

• Assist with general portering tasks deliveries and site organisation

• Ensure the school site is safe for pupils staff and visitors at all times

• Maintain records relating to site management health and safety checks

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will:

• Have previous experience in caretaking facilities management or a similar role

• Be proactive reliable and able to work independently

• Demonstrate strong organisational and problem-solving skills

• Be physically capable of performing the duties of the role

• Show attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards

• Be friendly approachable and able to work as part of a team

• Understand and follow health and safety regulations
