Job Summary

Mission Brief

You will join the Ground Fluid Systems Team which is part of the Ground Systems Department and acts as an internal engineering service provider to other development departments in the company to design and procure ground infrastructure. The goal of safe reliable and rapid testing and space launch operations can only be achieved with support from a wide range of rigorously designed developed and built ground infrastructure. This includes ground equipment such as test stands for research & development qualification and acceptance testing of propulsion systems and rocket stages as well as entire launchpads. Close cooperation with other departments such as Propulsion Technology and Launch Vehicle teams is necessary since their requirements dictate the design of the ground support equipment. As a Junior Process Plant Engineer you play a critical supporting role during the development and implementation phases of such facilities.

Your Role in Our Space Mission:

  • Support the construction and project management as well as the entire engineering/project team in day-to-day business and organizational matters
  • Support in subcontractor management
  • Travel to construction and test sites for supportive on-site tasks during construction and/or commissioning
  • Create and maintain various documents; maintenance of project documentation e.g. project schedules Minutes of Meetings Agendas technical standards etc.
  • Check 3D piping models isometrics BOMs/MTOs P&IDs technical manufacturing and assembly drawings
  • Utilise knowledge of heat transfer thermodynamics fluid dynamics and mechanical engineering to tackle issues in facility design
  • Potentially design smaller 3D piping models or small test facilities regarding preliminary layout and/or detailed drawings
  • Support in hardware procurement matters
  • Independently coordinate prepare and follow-up on appointments

Qualification Checklist

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in mechanical process chemical engineering (or equivalent) (OR) Technical training education (Staatlich geprüfte/r Techniker/-in) (OR) Completed apprenticeship (Ausbildung) with a few years of work experience in the oil & gas chemical pharmaceutical industry or similar
  • 0 to 2 years (more if not junior) of experience in the field of mechanical/chemical/process/plant engineering or equivalent
  • Knowledge of working in a project driven environment
  • Knowledge and/or first experience of industry standards and technical regulations which are common in plant engineering
  • Experience in usage of common 2D & 3D planning software (e.g. Autodesk products AVEVA or similar)
  • Knowledge of heat transfer thermodynamics fluid dynamics and mechanical engineering
  • Adjusting self-sufficiently and quickly to a changing work environment
  • Highly organised effective team player with high attention to detail
  • Communicating actively and openly in a constructive manner
  • English fluent

Bonus Skills

  • Experience in international in industrial plant projects
  • Hands-on experience on construction sites / in the field of plant engineering e.g. assembly of piping systems
  • German skills
