This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. Note: Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position in order to work in a temporary position. All temporary employees are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time.

This temporary position is located at 633 Old Landfill Road Taylorsville - Alexander County with the Department of Adult Correction.


Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $14.94-$23.35 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

Effective July 1 2025 candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. The Knowledge Skills and Abilities listed within this vacancy announcement will be used only as management preferences and will be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.

This position is located at Alexander Correctional in Taylorsville NC. The Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency Programs (ACDP) staff plans administers and coordinates chemical dependency screening and substance use disorder treatment services within the Department of Adult Correction.

Key Responsibilities/Management Preferences:

  • The SAW position will facilitate psycho education groups and monitor clients therapeutic activities.
  • Model acceptable behaviors and attitudes for clients utilizing positive and healthy communications encouraging cooperation and being consistent.
  • Attend staff meetings and training functions as required.
  • Utilize crisis intervention techniques to assist with crisis situations and inappropriate client behavior as needed.
  • Monitor designated meetings and treatment functions as needed.
  • Assist SAPC and Counselors with treatment groups and educational activities.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience working with individuals who are undergoing treatment for substance use disorders or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
