Job Summary:A teacher in the Sarpy County Education Program (SCEP) School is responsible for facilitating a flexible Alternative School age-based program to meet diverse student instructional needs implement effective alternative education strategies and behavior management techniques with effective intervention strategies that lead to high levels of student academic learning and personal growth. The teacher must be able to communicate effectively and collaborate productively with school districts teachers students and parents Patrick J. Thomas Juvenile Justice Center (JJC) Staff and Juvenile Court professionals while embracing the Alternative School Program philosophy.


Qualifications:Nebraska Department of Education Certification 2-3 years of teaching experience in the area of Alternative Education and/or Special Education is preferred.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Dependable and reliable attendance.
  2. Follow the Code of Ethics adopted by the Nebraska State Board of Education.
  3. Effectively apply professional competencies to meet the minimum standards as adopted by the Nebraska State Board of Education.
  4. Know and follow all policies rules regulations and directives of the JJC.
  5. Demonstrate a collaborative and communicative approach to working with other teachers assigned to the SCEP Program as well as to Sarpy County Juvenile Justice Center staff.
  6. Foster and maintain a positive relationship with patrons employees and students in daily work activities.
  7. Demonstrate the ability to implement an individualized education plan for each student taking into account the students learning style strengths and weaknesses.
  8. Facilitating and/or participating in program orientation for students and parents or guardians.
  9. Be able to address the students behaviors and to ameliorate behaviors which caused the student to be sent to the SCEP Program.
  10. Be able to implement a behavioral plan for the students success at SCEP. This may include but not limited to:
    • Conduct and analyze a functional behavioral assessment for students
    • Shape and model positive behaviors
    • Teach replacement behaviors/new behaviors
    • Implement positive intervention strategies (non-punitive)
    • Teach conflict resolution skill
  11. Implement a systematic plan including targeting behaviors short term and long term behavioral goals.
  12. Record student attendance and communicate absenteeism with parents/guardians school districts and Juvenile Court professionals.
  13. Devote a satisfactory measure of time and energy to the duties assigned and to the business of the school.
  14. Provide detailed reports of students statistical information and education progress upon request.
  15. Discuss and provide feedback with JJC Administration regarding student matters.
  16. Complete Information Reports (IRs) when required by the JJC.
  17. Exhibit character and moral standards and personal habits that are temperate in nature and are such that they may be emulated by the youth of the community.
  18. Exhibit conduct both in and out of school that avoids reflecting discredit upon the school or the employee.
  19. Maintain mental and physical health adequate to meet the responsibilities of the position held.
  20. Efficiently access and maintain computer programs.
  21. Fulfill the responsibilities of teaching as defined in state law.
  22. Fulfill responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor/administrator.
