Our client a leading manufacturer and marketer of premium-quality products for commercial industrial and residential applications is seeking an Electrical & Controls Engineer II in their Waterville OH facility about 20 minutes Southwest of Toledo. The Electrical & Controls Engineer II is a high-impact technical contributor responsible for improving automation systems increasing equipment reliability and leading performance-driven electrical engineering initiatives within a large 24/7 continuous manufacturing operation. This role goes beyond routine support work and focuses on delivering measurable improvements in uptime safety and long-term system performance.
This position plays a critical role in supporting plant-wide controls and networked automation systems and is essential to maintaining operational continuity across all production assets.
Key Responsibilities
Drive Reliability & Reduce Downtime
Develop and implement engineering solutions that reduce unplanned downtime and improve long-term control system reliability.
Lead root cause investigations for recurring electrical and controls failures and implement permanent corrective actions.
Lead Full-Lifecycle Engineering Projects
Independently scope justify design implement and close out electrical and controls capital and improvement projects.
Deliver complete engineering documentation including designs calculations specifications cost estimates schedules and commissioning plans.
Coordinate and manage vendors contractors and external engineering partners to ensure project alignment with performance budget and schedule targets.
Enhance Safety & Standards Compliance
Support electrical safety initiatives and compliance with NFPA 70E and internal engineering standards.
Ensure all electrical integrations upgrades and automation systems meet corporate engineering standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
Optimize Controls & Automation Systems
Improve PLC HMI VFD and industrial network performance to drive measurable operational gains.
Identify performance gaps in plant automation systems and lead engineered solutions for sustained improvement.
Provide day-to-day plant controls support including troubleshooting upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives.
Provide Technical Leadership
Mentor electricians technicians and junior engineers to strengthen troubleshooting capability and automation knowledge.
Communicate technical risks project status and performance impacts clearly to plant leadership and cross-functional teams.
Work closely with electrical supervisors and operations leadership to align engineering solutions with production needs.
This role includes both capital project execution and hands-on support of daily plant controls systems including coordinated drive systems PLC/VFD/HMI programming and modernization of obsolete controls infrastructure.
Requirements
Education & Experience
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
Minimum of 3 years of electrical and/or controls engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (57 years preferred).
Experience supporting a 24/7 continuous operations facility.
Technical Skills
Demonstrated experience with industrial electrical and control systems including:
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Experience with controls modernization and coordinated drive systems strongly preferred.
Project engineering experience from concept through commissioning.
Professional Skills
Strong analytical troubleshooting and root cause problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Effective communication skills for working with operations maintenance and leadership teams.
Comfortable working in a plant environment and collaborating closely with electricians and supervisors.
