Job Summary

Position: Secondary Principal (Grades 6-12)

Campus: To Be Determined

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Immediate Supervisor(s):Superintendent

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Ensure every student receives high-quality instruction
  • Ensure there are high-quality teachers and staff in every classroom throughout the school
  • Model a consistent focus and personal responsibility for improving student outcomes
  • Establish and implement a shared vision and culture of high expectations for all staff and students
  • Outline and track clear goals targets and strategies aligned to the district vision and school vision that continuously improves teacher effectiveness and student outcomes

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Masters degree in educational leadership
  • Texas principal or another appropriate Texas certificate
  • Certified Appraiser for the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to evaluate the instructional program and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to manage campus budget and personnel
  • Ability to coordinate campus functions
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Ability to interpret and effectively use multiple types of data
  • Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills

Experience:

  • Three years of experience as a classroom teacher
  • Three years of experience in campus instructional and administrative leadership roles

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional Leadership:

  • Implement rigorous curricula and assessments aligned with state standards including college and career readiness standards
  • Help develop high-quality instructional practices among teachers that improve student performance
  • Monitor multiple forms of student data to inform instructional and intervention decisions which contribute to maximizing student achievement
  • Ensure that effective instruction maximizes the growth of individual students supports equity and eliminates the achievement gap

Human Capital:

  • Select place and retain effective teachers and staff
  • Coach and develop teachers by giving individualized feedback and appropriately aligned professional development opportunities
  • Implement collaborative structures and provide leadership opportunities for effective teachers and staff
  • Conduct rigorous evaluations of all staff using multiple data sources

Executive Leadership:

  • Remain solution-oriented treat challenges as opportunities and support staff through changes
  • Proactively seek and act on feedback reflect on personal growth areas while seeking development opportunities and accept responsibility for mistakes
  • Tailor communication strategies to the audience and develop meaningful and positive relationships
  • Demonstrate the moral imperative to educate all children and follow the procedures of the district by adhering to the Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators

  • Develop and implement a shared vision of high expectations for students and staff
  • Establish and monitor clear expectations for adult and student conduct and implement social and emotional supports for students
  • Engage families and community members in student learning
  • Create an atmosphere of safety that encourages the social emotional and physical well-being of staff and students
  • Use a variety of student discipline techniques to meet the behavioral and academic needs of individual students

Strategic Operations:

  • Outline and track clear goals targets and strategies aligned to a school vision that improves teacher effectiveness and student outcomes
  • Implement a year-long calendar and daily schedules thatprovide for collaborative team planning regular data-driven instruction cycles give students access to diverse and rigorous course offerings and build in time for staff professional development
  • Align resources with the needs of the school and effectively monitor the impact on school goals
  • Collaborate with district staff to implement and advocate for district policies that meet the needs of students and staff

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of all personnel assigned to campus including but not limited to assistant principal(s) teacher(s) counselor(s) librarian(s) professional support staff instructional aides clerical support staff and custodians.

  • Tools/Equipment Used:Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; other specialized and adaptive equipment used by students
  • Motion:Frequent walking and reaching frequent standing; kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting
  • Lifting:Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning of students with physical disabilities controlling behavior through physical restraint assisting non-ambulatory students and lifting and moving adaptive and other classroom equipment
  • Environment:Work inside and outside (exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (body fluids bacteria communicable diseases etc.)
  • Mental Demands:Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; Ability to interact positively and proactively with students with behavioral concerns communicate verbally and inwriting instruct and maintain emotional control under stress
  • Professional Dress: Dress must be clean neat in a manner appropriate for the assignment and in accordance with any additional standards established by the supervisor and approved by the Superintendent. During work hours visible body piercings (except earrings) will not be allowed.

EVALUATIONS:

  • Performance of this position will be evaluated annually
