Required Qualifications
As a member of the Security Department the Security Guard is responsible for ensuring the safety of employees visitors and the protection of MOCA Jacksonville property and artwork. (Cannot be a Student)
- Is responsible for ensuring the safety of the works of art by patrolling galleries to ensure that visitors are complying with visitor policies.
- Performs opening and closing procedures including; locking all doors checking all floors to ensure that no one is in the building and alarming/disarming the alarm.
- Monitors the behavior of visitors at events and during museum hours in an effort to provide a safe environment for staff and the public.
- Reports all incidents/accidents to supervisor immediately and keeps a record of all incidents.
- Handles some front desk duties prior to the opening of the museum including monitoring front door assisting guests answering telephone and monitoring the delivery of works of art into the museum.
- Secure various posts on a rotational basis including galleries access ramps elevatorsand other areas as assigned.
- Inspect bags of visitors entering the museum and staff leaving the museum when necessary.
- Inform visitors and staff of museum policies and enforce them appropriately.
- Monitor and maintain the flow of visitors in all galleries.
- Report to a Chief of Security and assist with documenting any incident related to visitors staff or art work.
- Identify safety hazards suspicious behavior and potential problems and report to the Chief of Security and Deputy Director.
- Assist with emergency evacuations.
- Provide security at special events.
- Perform fireguard duties as qualified.
- Read departmental memos and remain aware of all policy revisions.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 1 2 years of security related experience
- Must be able to walk run stand and stay physically active for longer periods.
- Must be able to lift heavy objects (physical protective barriers ie. stanchions)
- Ability to remain alert at all times
- Good communication skills; ability to interact professionally and respectfully with all levels of staff and visitors and enforce museum policies
- Punctuality is essential
- Professional attentive and reliable
- Must be able to work weekends
- Preferred Qualifications: Security experience in a customer service-oriented environment with direct customer relations preferred. Security license not required but experience in a museum or gallery setting preferred.
