Jefferson County Division of Children Youth Families and Adult Protections mission statement is to promote the safety well-being andpermanencyfor children youth adults and families. With this mission in mind the internship program at Jefferson County Children Youth Families and Adult Protection is designed toestablisha network of support for the casework interns.
The primary goal of our program is to prepare you for a career in child protection.As aCasework Intern you will have the opportunity to shadow other caseworkers in other program areas and sections in addition to your assigned section so that you can get a well- roundedexperience.Eventually you will be assigned a case or two where you will also be able to use group supervision for case consultation around practice issues. We will doadditionaltraining to prepare you for a career in social work. These topics include but are not limited to orientation to the agency domestic violence substance abuse mental health sexual abuse interviewing for caseworker positions as well as completing Transfer of Learning requirements. Our agency is very committed to our internship program and views our interns as a valuable resource for our agency and families.
Due to State requirements and the funding of these positions only candidates who areenrolled in an accredited social work programthathavea program requirement to complete an internship will be considered. *Must have access tovehicleand have a valid drivers license.
Hourly rate for BSW Candidates: $19.00
Hourly rate for MSW Candidates: $20.00

RESPONSIBILITIES
All Casework Interns supporta teamresponsible for:
Extensive case documentation which includes preparing court reports and social histories andutilizingfamily engagement skills to mitigate risk and enhance safety that will be used in the office client homes and in the community.
Assessing safety of a child/youth/at-risk adults and making decisions based on information available which could include removing a child from their home.
Advocating for families and children testifying in court and de-escalating potentially volatile situations.
Daily travel around the Denver Metro area and periodic travel throughout Colorado.
Will discuss in detail and work with families who are dealing with substance abuse mental health domestic violence multi-generational poverty child abuse childneglectand sexual abuse.
In Addition to the above specialized casework teams involve the following:
The Intake Casework Internsupports a team responsible for:
Assessing allegations of abuse/neglect and referring clients to appropriate services.
Collaborating with law enforcement schools medical personnel mental health agencies thecourtsand providers caring for children.
The Permanency Casework Internsupports a team responsible for:
Coordinating resources for child protection family and adolescent crisis response delinquency and parent/child conflict emancipation planning andfacilitatingadoptions.
Collaborating with service providers courts the community schools and assessment centers.

MINIUMQUALIFICATIONS:
To qualify a candidatemust be enrolled in an accredited social work programand completing an internship required by your program. Must have access to vehicle.
Offer of placement is contingent on criminal history state automated case management system check and MVR check.
Must not have one of the following convictions: Child abuse crime of violence unlawful sexual behavior or felony for domestic violence.
Must not have a felony involving physical assault battery or drug-related offense within the past five years.
Must not have a pattern of misdemeanor convictions within the past 10 years.
Avalid drivers license.
