Job Description
Job Title: Laboratory Technician
1. Purpose of the Position
- Perform chemical or physical analyses of raw materials finished products packaging materials and stability samples using established and official methods in order to determine product quality or monitor a manufacturing process.
- Carry out analyses related to laboratory activities in compliance with HSE rules and GMP GLP and other applicable guidelines and standards.
- Participate in laboratory activities related to the qualification of known official methods manufacturing processes equipment and cleaning residues.
2. Main Responsibilities
- Perform chemical physical and instrumental analyses according to established and officially approved methods to determine product quality or monitor a manufacturing process (process validation analysis).
- Ensure appropriate follow-up on chemical analyses.
- Complete all analytical documentation diligently in accordance with current standards and procedures (GMP GLP LIMS investigations etc.).
- Participate in the analytical transfer of known and officially approved analytical methods.
- Contribute to various departmental projects including:
- Investigations and re-analysis following atypical results
- Qualification and calibration of laboratory instruments
- Analysis of manufacturing process validation samples and stability samples related to projects
- Participate in special projects as required by the department.
- Contribute to the drafting of procedures and/or operation manuals when needed.
- Ensure the maintenance of technical qualifications and knowledge of current methods and procedures.
- Calibrate equipment used according to appropriate programs and within the scope of personal knowledge and competencies.
- Perform work in compliance with the companys GMP GLP and HSE standards policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and orderly workspace in accordance with GLP and HSE requirements.
- Ensure the availability of materials required to perform assigned tasks.
3. Management Responsibilities
Carries out laboratory analyses (chemical or physical) related to various products and analytical projects using established and officially approved methods to determine product quality or monitor a manufacturing process (process validation analysis). The technician is therefore responsible for managing and executing assigned analytical tasks.
Acts as a resource person for analytical issues related to the tests performed and/or provides support in the use of laboratory instruments where applicable.
4. Resources
No budget management responsibilities. Any expenses to be incurred fall under the responsibility of the department manager.
5. Key Professional Relationships (Internal / External)
Internal partners: Laboratory department and Purchasing department for coordination of work activities.
External partners: Providers of laboratory analysis services.
6. Required Knowledge and Skills
a) Required Education
College Diploma (DEC) in Analytical Chemistry or Chemistry-Biology or a Bachelors degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry.
b) Languages
French and English.
c) Experience and Specific Knowledge
- 3 to 5 years of experience in analytical laboratories
- Experience in pharmaceutical product analysis
- Knowledge of Canadian and international GMP / GLP standards
- Excellent knowledge of analytical techniques and laboratory instruments
d) Specific Technical Skills
- Analytical chemistry
- Laboratory instrumentation
- Metrology
- Laboratory information management systems (LIMS etc.)
