Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
Assists individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from or have been referred to The Salvation Army. This may involve providing administration and operational requirements.
KEY Accountabilities:
Represents and works within the mission vision & values of The Salvation Army.
Uses a client-centered approach by consistently demonstrating compassion respect and empathy
Interviews clients for program eligibility and ongoing support
Supports where and when possible the efforts of all guests and co-workers
Supports advocates for and refers guests in helping empower them to become more self-sufficient and help them re-integrate into the greater community
Data entry - maintains and updates all appropriate documentation/progress notes related to clients and food donations and initiates any new documentation. Create reports timely and accurately as needed
Monitors appropriate behavior; intervenes in crisis situations provides emotional support and advocacy as required
Liaises with community agencies and partners
Provides food hampers and/or vouchers to clients according to pre-defined guidelines ensuring accurate tracking and record keeping in TSA proprietary programs
Assists in the preparation and maintenance for Food Banks Canada (FBC) Accreditation process
Assists in the operations safety comfort organization maintenance and general cleanliness of the Food Bank according to FBC standards
Receives (and/or declines) sorts/organizes and distributes non-monetary donations or purchased products following standard procedures
May be responsible for ensuring safe handling of hazardous materials
Arranges for discarding of items that are not usable in accordance with policy
May schedule train and direct work of volunteers assisting in the Food Bank using FBC guidelines
Assists with events like food drives fundraising camp transportation community events etc.
May occur outside of regular office hours i.e. evenings and weekends
Co-ordinates Christmas Campaign with Community Engagement Manager
May assist Kettle Coordinator as needed with driving drop offs & pickups
May occur outside of regular office hours i.e. evenings and weekends
Maintains confidentiality and dignity of fellow staff volunteers customers and clients
Helps organize church activities and events i.e. Breakfast with Santa church camps
Performs other related duties as assigned
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Internal: MU leaders and staff clients
External: Clients family members police community organizations
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
Reports directly to Community Engagement Manager

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
Minor material responsibilities (safekeeping and proper use of vouchers and bus passes access to private information)
Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines.
Does not process any financial transactions with no budget responsibilities.
Working Conditions:
The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of moderate to severe injury or illnesses due to:
Physical attacks by others
Exposure to infectious diseases
Exposure to toxic chemicals (e.g. toxic spills)
Moving objects
Sharp objects (e.g. needle pricks)
Repetitive strain injuries (e.g. back wrist)

education and experience Qualifications:
Education and Qualifications
Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of one academic year in a related field.
CPR First Aid Naloxone and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training or obtain as condition of employment
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
Preference given to those who have prior related experience in social services environment OR 3 months of prior related experience including working with multi-barriered persons
Current valid BC drivers license and clean driving record an asset
Skills and Capabilities
Problem solving decision making and organization skills highly valued
Willing to develop an understanding of the mission and purpose and its implications as related to the position responsibilities
Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner.
The performance of the job requires a moderate amount of computer work with word processing ability and walking around the premises.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs with no assistance from others or up to 50 lbs with assistance.
Good communication skills verbal and written.
Fluent in spoken and written English

An understanding of and support for the Mission Statement of the Salvation Army in Canada
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.
Ability to provide an original copy of a Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion is required
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $18.99 to $23.73 with a maximum of $28.48.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
