Job Summary

Set on a beautiful 56-acre property Camp Mary Elizabeth in Spartanburg SC delivers an extraordinary day camp experience with an aquatics area a vibrant lodge scenic trails and spirited girl-team activities. Were looking for an enthusiastic Lead Summer Day Camp Counselor who seeks to build their leadership skills by guiding Camp Counselors on delivering creative adventurous and team-building activities during day camp.


If youre passionate about mentoring and inspiring youth leading hands-on programs and helping day campers build confidence and lasting friendships join us for a summer of meaningful work and adventure. As a member of the seasonal team youll also lead small groups support daily program delivery by guiding Camp Counselors and help maintain a positive safe camper-first culture that values individuality growth and fun.


Being a great Lead Camp Counselor looks like:

  • Being a team player and a positive role model for girl campers youth ages 5-17 years old while guiding camp counselors in delivering meaningful programs.
  • Assisting and at times leading groups of girls in activities including singing camp songs team building games and interactive camp programming (e.g. scavenger hunts and more).
  • Making every session meaningful by bringing programs to life while building real connections with the camperscheering them on getting to know them and helping them grow along the way.
  • Helping campers and staff learn to thrive together resolve conflict and solve problems by modeling openness clear communication and investment in group outcomes.
  • Demonstrating through your actions a respect for diversity individuality and empowerment of youth.
  • Assisting with girl camper engagement throughout the dayincluding lunch and daily cleanupwhile helping girls build responsibility teamwork and pride through caring for their camp community.
  • Learning and implementing the crisis management plan including emergency procedures; be aware of the ongoing medical needs of the campers in your group.
Requirements

Your background and girl-led leadership passion includes:

  • No prior Girl Scout experience required to apply.
  • Must be at least 21 years old with a HS Diploma or equivalent required (advanced education or college preferred).
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and vehicle insurance meeting state requirements.
  • Minimum2 years of relevant experience developing and facilitating progressive activities with youth ages5 17 years old.
  • First Aid and CPR certification required (training provided during camp staff orientation).
  • Successful reference check drug screen and background check required.
  • Active membership in the Girl Scout organization is required and may be obtained upon hire upholding the values of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

Physical requirements include:

  • Must be capable of being attentive and active in various outdoor environments with inclement weather conditions to include summer sun heat and natural habitats exposure.
  • Ability to be on camper level which may include the ability to stoop kneel bend reach stand walk push pull lift work with fingers grasp feel talk hear and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to perform light work exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Ability to practice self-care by staying hydrated getting enough rest and asking for help when you need it.

Summer Orientation / Work Schedule:

Day camp is Monday Friday during the summer beginning June 1 2026 (includes half-week of camp programming June 29 July 1 2026) and possibly running through July with camp partnerships. The schedule for this position averages 8 hours daily while camp is in session with a four-day paid orientation session (required) scheduled for May.
