What will you be doing

As part of the REAL Program (Reconnection Employment and Learning) you will coordinate pre and post release services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners with skills support referrals to services and mentoring needed to prepare them to find employment and reintegrate back into the community.

  • Work with Lotus Glen staff and Delegates to gain access to the prison obtain eligible prisoner list identify and deliver training/ skill set activities for prisoners to engage in.
  • Collaborate with various employers and community organisations in Cape York Torres Strait Islands Gulf of Carpentaria The Tablelands and Cairns region to create opportunities and support prisoners post release.
  • Provide coaching and ongoing support to REAL Mentors to maximise outcomes.
  • Engage and support prisoners to transition back into community. Including travel arrangements where relevant.
  • Assist with access to community and other Support Services.

Who are you

Skills and experience we are looking for include:

  • Sound understanding and experience in community services or remote employment service programs.
  • Sound understanding of employment and government programs Department Service Guarantees and Codes of Conduct.
  • Qualifications in community services or a similar field would be highly regarded but not essential
  • Good written and verbal communication to consult with pre and post release prisoners and a variety of stakeholders and community organisations.
  • Sound coordination problem solving time management and ability to develop practical solutions.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite and other IT programs.
  • Understand the challenges and barriers in remote regions. Including incarceration and reintegration back to community.

A valid Police Check and Working with Children Check are mandatory requirements prior to commencement of employment. Successful candidates must set up a myGovID in order to access Government data aligned to role.
