Position Information

Revitalizing Homes Strengthening Communities

The Department of Community Services Community Assistance (Section 8) Division is hiring anUrban Rehabilitation Inspector II. The position supervises and coordinates the work of Urban Rehabilitation Inspector staff under the guidance of the Rehabilitation Loan this role you will supervise and coordinate inspection staff oversee property inspections and guide property owners to ensure compliance with rehabilitation program standards as well as City and State codes. You will help ensure properties meet program requirements through effective supervision inspections and technical support making a real impact in the community.

What You Will Do
  • Supervise and coordinate inspectors to ensure work meets codes and rehabilitation standards.
  • Inspect properties and advise owners on repairs and improvements.
  • Check and verify rehabilitation work and contractor invoices.
  • Handle complex cases and resolve disputes between homeowners contractors and staff.
  • Coordinate with other programs and agencies to ensure compliance.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
Special Working Conditions
  • Personal vehicle required to drive to various locations to inspect housing units.
  • Ability to climb stairs and step ladder ability to kneel to inspect and ensure that deficiencies have been corrected.
  • May need to crawl to check crawl space beneath structure.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Three (3) years of experience in inspecting or supervising building construction work.

Must be able to:

  • Understand materials work practices and processes used in construction and maintenance of structures and appurtenances.
  • Follow Federal State and local laws codes ordinances and standards relating to construction
  • Apply building and related codes and ordinances of the City and County of Honolulu.
  • Detect property deficiencies and make sound recommendations for improvement.
  • Interpret and apply plans and specifications building and related codes.
  • Understand laws rules and regulations pertaining to construction and rehabilitation.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid drivers license (type 3/automobile) prior to appointment.
