Job Summary

POSITION TITLE

2321 IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION MONITOR

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

Performs responsible paraprofessional work monitoring the behavior of students assigned to in-school suspension. Does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the principal.

This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally up to 10 pounds of force frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects and some medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally up to 20 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires stopping kneeling reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken work; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions and noise.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS

  • Supervising students assigned to in-school suspension enforcing established rules and regulations.
  • Monitors student assignments given by teachers returns completed classwork to teachers;
  • Keeps daily log of ISS students and students under detention.
  • Prepares and submits monthly reports on ISS students;
  • Monitors ISS students during lunch and afternoon breaks;
  • Counsels students when necessary:
  • Prepares instructional work for students after completion of regular classwork;
  • Performs related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

General knowledge of the practices concerning in-school suspension programs and appropriate methods of dealing with misconduct; ability to deal effectively with students and teachers; skill in the use of classroom and instructional equipment; ability to recognize and identify activities or situations which have or may become a problem or emergency requiring immediate attention; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers parents students and the general public.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in working with children.
