Position Summary

Position Overview

The Assistant Middle School Track Coach supports the head coach in planning organizing and leading a developmentally appropriate track and field program for middle school student-athletes. This position helps foster a positive inclusive and growth-oriented environment while promoting skill development teamwork sportsmanship and enthusiasm for the sport. As part of a small-school athletic department the assistant coach may help with multiple event groups and take on a variety of responsibilities based on program needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and conducting daily practices including warm-ups event-specific drills conditioning and cooldowns.
• Work with student-athletes across multiple event areas (sprints distance relays jumps throws) depending on program needs.
• Provide supervision instruction and encouragement to ensure student-athletes develop skills safely and effectively.
• Help teach fundamentals of track and field proper technique and competitive rules for each event.
• Model and reinforce positive behavior sportsmanship and team culture.
• Support the head coach in meet preparation event entries lineup management and day-of-meet operations.
• Monitor and support academic expectations attendance and eligibility standards.
• Communicate effectively with athletes parents and school staff as needed.
• Ensure safety protocols are followed and maintain awareness of student-athlete well-being.
• Assist with equipment management organization and care of facilities.
• Promote a positive experience that encourages participation effort and improvement.

• Coaching Authorization/Endorsement
