Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system UChicago Medicine as a Blood Donor Center Coordinator in the Blood Bankdepartment. The Blood Donation Center Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between donors the blood collection team the medical center and the local community to ensure a positive donor experience. This role focuses on expanding the donor base through active recruitment efforts within the community university and medical center network. The coordinator plans and manages blood drives oversees and participates in publicity efforts and implements donor recognition and education initiatives. By fostering strong relationships and promoting awareness the coordinator helps sustain a consistent and engaged donor community.

This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Essential Job Functions

  • Establish positive working relationships with medical staff and departments to promote regular blood donation events.
  • Cultivate relationships with existing donors to ensure their continued support while also recruiting new individuals to join the blood donation program.
  • Review blood utilization and reach out to hospital units or patients families to encourage donation as well as provide customized donation materials for the families/patients to read.
  • Build strong relationships with UCM students and staff to raise awareness about blood donation and facilitate scheduling appointments in the Blood Donation Center.
  • Continuously cultivate relationships with department and organizational leadership volunteers and community to promote continued growth of the blood donation center.
  • Target diverse populations and high-potential donor groups through community outreach digital campaigns and partnerships.
  • Direct recruitment of high value donors (platelet donors group O and/or RhD negative whole blood donors) by utilizing reports from the lab information system
  • Work with UCM marketing to promote blood donations (internally and local community).
  • Demonstrates ability to create programs promotional and educational material.
  • Distribute promotional materials and deliver formal and informal presentations to groups to explain donation requirements and benefits of blood donation.
  • Demonstrates experience organizing and running special events.
  • Track recruitment metrics donor engagement and campaign effectiveness
  • Use data insights to refine outreach strategies and improve donor retention
  • Educate the public on the importance of blood donation through presentations social media and educational materials.
  • Be the advocate for blood donation at local events health fairs and media opportunities.
  • Promote schedule and organize blood drives and donation events.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in business communication or medical assisting services preferred.
  • Knowledge and ability to safely use laboratory and hospital information systems.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with colleagues healthcare workers and the public both personally and professionally.
  • Must demonstrate a warm and approachable demeanor with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Should possess the ability to effectively engage with a diverse range of individuals including potential and current blood donors patient families and hospital staff and effectively communicate the importance of blood donation. Ability to work a flexible schedule including possible weekends and some evenings.
  • Ability to be out and about within the hospital on UCM campus and within the community encouraging and recruiting donors
  • Knowledgeable using social media tools.
  • Possess the ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Basic data analysis skills needed for reporting data.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum one-year experience preferred.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
