The City of Independence Community Services Department is seeking a responsible hardworking dedicated friendly energetic and fun individual with a passion for serving the community to serve as a Front Desk Team Member to perform key administrative functions in support of the Community Services Team.
Days Hours & Additional Employment Details
The Community Services Front Desk Team Member is a part-time position working 24 hours a week Mondays and Tuesdays from 7 AM to 2 PM and Wednesdays from 7 AM to 5 PM.
There may be weeks periodically throughout the employment period where working evenings weekends and holidays are required resulting in an adjusted schedule and/or overtime.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of administrative tasks in support of Community Services programs activities events and services.
- Interact and communicate in written and verbal formats with residents guests colleagues and team members to answer questions disseminate or explain information such a way that continues to foster the safe fun and educational environment of the Civic Center.
- Answer telephone calls e-mails and in-person inquiries providing general department and program-specific information and/or directing individuals to the appropriate person or department.
- Compile copy sort and file records and documents in line with Community Services policies and procedures.
- Receive incoming mail and respond or distribute accordingly.
- Register residents and guests for various programs activities events trips and services and process payments in accordance with department procedures for enrolling participants.
- Attend training seminars and meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years of administrative experience in an office environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Outlook Word).
- Ability to handle multiple responsibilities program activities events and services simultaneously ensuring all internal and external deadlines are met.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment including photocopiers and scanners voicemail systems and personal computers; operate laminator when needed.
- Be intrinsically motivated to work independently while still having a team-oriented mentality.
- Availability to work some evenings weekends and holidays.
- Represent the City of Independence in a professional manner.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to see speak and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and be able to lift up to 25 lbs. when necessary.

Salary Information
- The starting salary for this role in Grade 3 is $16.50/hour.
- The hiring salary amount will depend on the candidates combination of education experience and certification history along with other considerations.
