Job description:The Breaking & Trending team is at the center of The Dallas Morning News. Most major news stories start with this team which drives our daily conversation with readers in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area the fourth-largest metro in the United States. The team has nine reporters and four editors who staff our desk from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. We write stories across all topics sometimes handing off to specialized teams but often following breaking stories with longer-term enterprise that gets at the how and why things happened and tells the stories of the people and communities involved. We want an experienced editor to help this team be the best in our market.
What will you do
Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision to assigned staff ensuring operational goals and objectives are met effectively and efficiently
Responsible for all aspects of employee management including recruitment interviewing selection onboarding and retention
Conducts regular performance evaluations; provides constructive feedback and coaching to support employee development and accountability
Administer progressive discipline and counseling as needed in alignment with company policies and procedures
Oversee scheduling workload distribution and delegation of responsibilities to ensure balanced team performance and productivity
