Summary:
New York Edge seeks a highly organized detail-oriented and responsible individual tofill the role of SEL this part-time position you will be responsible forhelpingstudents remove or manage barriers that negatively impact their academicsocial andemotional success at school through individual or group therapy. This rolereports to theSite Director. This role will also require attendance for the Leadership & SEL trainings provided by the SEL department under the Director of Leadership & SEL.
Schedule:
Part-Time2-6pm
Monday Friday
This role requires you to be in-person.
Pay:
$42-50/hr
Salary is commensurate with experience skills education and merit.
Essential Job Functions:
Provide SEL support to students and families individually and in groupclasses.
Build strong relationships with and among students
Implement an approved LEADERSHIP curriculum such as guiding peer discussions to relevant leadership topics prepare and teach daily SEL activities and adapt teaching methods to meet community needs and interests
Observe child mental health needs and implement short-term frequent andstrategic interventionsto support student in program.
Provide strategies and work with teachers to promote social and emotionalcompetence in the classroom
Participate in regular faculty development reflective practice professionalorganizations peer coaching and group work
Administer pre and post assessments and evaluations for student activities using the organizational Mosaic By ACT program
Required Skills:
Familiarity and experience with crisis intervention and behavioral models Evidence of successful counseling strategies concerning discipline social andemotional development substance abuse and conflict mediation
Evidence of success with students who exhibit academic social and emotionalstruggles students with special needs youth living in high poverty and theirfamilies
Knowledge of or ability to make referrals for students in need of additionalservices or alternative placements
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion Thorough understanding of child development and behavior
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with colleagues parentsstudents and the community
Commitment to continuous professional growth (e.g. professional developmentformal education professional literature)
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in social work (or related field such as education orpsychology) required
2 years experience with working with children in a school setting
Computer proficiency required including Microsoft Word and Excel email correspondence Google Drive and database management.
