Job Description

This Research Scientist 2 position will support research projects exploring the mechanisms underlying toxicity of yeast prions.

1. Perform research in protein folding focused on the conformational transitions of prions proteins in yeast and their cellular regulation; perform routine and help develop new techniques in molecular and cellular biology biochemistry and genetics; perform routine and shared tasks to support the functioning of the lab as needed including reagent and glassware
prep lab organization inventory etc. 70%
2. Presenting results at scientific conferences; writing results for publication in international journals. 10%
3. Train undergraduate graduate and postdoctoral researchers in laboratory techniques. 15%
4. Providing research training for HS students. 5%

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors Degree in Biochemistry Biology Chemistry and two years of work in a research lab.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements suck as a license certification and/or registration.

Additional Requirements:

Competence in standard protein biochemistry techniques (extraction of proteins from Cell lysate gel electrophoretic analyses stability assays etc).
Competence in standard molecular biology techniques (recombinant DNA PCR fluorescence microscopyetc).
Competence in data and standard statistical analyses.
Excellent organizational/record-keeping skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Competence with computer programs such as Microsoft Office Adobe Creative Cloud.

Desired qualifications.

Previous experience with yeast.
Working knowledge of mathematical modeling of biological systems.

Ability to critically evaluate scientific literature.
Self-motivation.

Pay Range Minimum:

$68736.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$113580.00 annual
