Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Services the Work Integrated Learning Officer establishes maintains and enhances collaboration among employers students and faculty to ensure successful work-integrated learning experiences at Bow Valley College.
This role will be supporting work integrated learning for multiple non-credit programs. This is a part-time .5 roles funded until Dec. 31 2028.The WIL Officer supports learners in a variety of placement models including practicum field placement clinical and placement-based service learning. The incumbent implements coordinates and promotes WIL activities facilitates learning opportunities and supports students in transitioning into the workplace. Using career and employment development strategies the WIL Officer ensures learners are well prepared for success throughout their WIL experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative Oversight of Work Integrated Learning Placements
- Foster employer relationships to support participation in WIL components of Bow Valley College programs.
- Develop and implement processes to match learners with approved placements using the WIL management system in collaboration with program coordinators or designates.
- Develop and maintain user guides and tools for employers learners and faculty/staff participating in WIL.
- Maintain databases containing employer/host and learner records.
- Conduct follow-up activities with learners to ensure a smooth transition throughout the WIL experience.
- Support the collection and management of placement agreements with host sites.
- Manage large volumes of student and employer data required to complete WIL placements.
- Develop reports track process effectiveness and manage records related to learner placement outcomes.
- Compile and share key learnings recommendations and endorsements from students and employers to support continuous improvement and promotion of WIL.
- Coordinate and provide guidance for experiential learning-related projects and assignments as required.
Relationship Building and Liaison with Internal and External Stakeholders
- Liaise with faculty and administrators to coordinate WIL workflows through centralized WIL services.
- Research develop and implement strategic local regional and provincial outreach plans to engage employers and establish WIL opportunities.
- Collaborate with faculty and College stakeholders to organize and facilitate orientation and networking events for learners employers and industry partners.
- Support the identification and assessment of new WIL placement settings in collaboration with faculty and administrators.
- Confirm learner placements with faculty and administrators to ensure appropriate matches.
- Collaborate with faculty on program progress and learner development practices that support outcomes-focused learning.
- Ensure employers and partners receive accurate and timely information regarding programs WIL processes career fairs job boards information sessions and recruiting services.
- Make referrals to other College service areas as appropriate.
WIL Student Preparation (Career and Employment Development)
- Design and deliver WIL-readiness programming including resume writing interview preparation networking and self-marketing.
- Provide one-on-one career and employment coaching to students related to WIL placements.
- Develop and facilitate workshops tailored to program-specific WIL requirements including workplace success and interview skills.
- Develop and maintain print and digital WIL resources for students.
- Support employment services events such as career fairs employer presentations mock interviews speaker events and roundtables.
- Assist students in identifying and overcoming barriers to achieving WIL placement requirements referring them to appropriate College or community resources.
- Identify general and industry-specific hiring trends to educate students on employer and sector expectations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in a related field plus a minimum of three (3) years of related work experience.
- Experience in business development student placement human resources career development or a related field.
- An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building employer relationships and securing WIL placements in a post-secondary environment.
- Career development experience and/or certification.
- Experience with electronic career or WIL information management systems.
- Experience with contact management software (e.g. Orbis Symplicity).
- Knowledge of labor market trends employer needs and best practices in career services.
- Strong ability to work with multiple stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within self-managed teams.
- Excellent organizational skills attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong communication presentation and facilitation skills with professionalism and diplomacy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel PowerPoint) and familiarity with social media platforms such as LinkedIn.
