Job Description
TEACHER OF SPECIAL DAY CLASS-MILD TO MODERATE
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Provides a special day class program for children who meet eligibility criteria forspecial education serving students with learning disabilities. Develops and implements an individualizedprogram according to the Individual Education Plan for each student that primarily addresses language artsmathematics and behavioral/social needs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Instructs students with learning disabilities and/or developmental delays using appropriate techniquesequipment instructional materials and supplies in accordance with the individualized education program for each student.
2. Develops and implements short and long range goals in academics language communication behaviorand other priority areas of need which remediate those specific needs.
3. Provides academic as well as therapeutic interventions for specific remediation.
4. Evaluates student performances keeps up-to-date records of individual student progress andrecommends revision of the I.E.P. as appropriate; modifies I.E.P. accordingly.
5. Works closely with other special education staff members e.g. psychologists program specialist speechtherapist adaptive physical education teacher in the assessment process program development and inthe implementation of the I.E.P.
6. Takes responsibility for providing for successful integration of students into regular program therebycommunicating regularly with the regular education staff.
7. Communicates with parents as necessary as a means of effectively coordinating the efforts of the schooland the home in the improvement of the overall program for the student.
8. Establishes and maintains standards of behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere inthe classroom.
9. Maintains an effective attractive learning environment in which positive self-image and self-helpactivities are stressed.
10. Assists in the educational diagnostic assessment of identified pupils. Develops an individual educationprogram for each pupil on an annual basis.
