Job Title: Discovery Overnight Camp Program Coordinator
Compensation: $650/week 5% increase for those that speak both Spanish and English

Reporting to: Camp Manager Director of Programs

Position Summary:
The Discovery Camp Program Coordinator plays a key role in keeping the daily flow of camp organized engaging and on track. This position supports the Discovery Camp Manager and leadership team by helping execute day-to-day programming logistics and curriculum ensuring that each session feels thoughtful prepared and fun for both campers and counselors.

The Program Coordinator focuses on the planning and execution side of camp life. From building field group binders and coordinating camper choice schedules to preparing all-camp games and weekly themes this role helps bring the camp experience to life behind the scenes. Working closely with other Discovery Camp leaders the Program Coordinator ensures counselors feel prepared programs run smoothly and each week is set up for success.

Key Responsibilities:
Daily Operations & Logistics

  • Support overnight preparation on-call duties challenge hike logistics and camper choice/adventure day coordination.
  • Collect camper choice sheets by breakfast on Tuesday mornings and build schedules for Wednesday and Thursday activities.
  • Create staff teaching schedules and camper choice rotation schedules (pending approval from the Discovery Overnight Manager).
  • Schedule set up and staff weekly all-camp games including assigning roles and gathering necessary materials and equipment.

Program Planning & Curriculum Support

  • Create implement and support weekly curriculum and camper choice activities based on session themes
  • Prepare detailed field group binders for each session including camper rosters schedules printed curriculum skits songs and logistics for overnights and challenge hikes the week prior to each session and ready for distribution at the Monday Staff Meeting.

Staff Communication & Support

  • Share key information with counselors at Monday Staff Meetings including weekly curriculum highlights overnight locations challenge hike assignments and adventure day details.
  • Work alongside the Discovery Camp leadership team to support counselors and assist the Camp Manager as needed.
  • Step in to support camper or staff concerns when required while primarily focusing on programming and logistics.


Qualifications

Skills

  • Have an interest in respect for and ability to work with children and people with diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to create an inclusive learning environment for campers from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Ability to remain calm flexible and resourceful in fast-paced or high-pressure situations.
  • Works effectively across departments and with leadership to achieve organizational goals.
  • Understanding of best practices in camp programming risk management and experiential education.
  • Preferred - Outdoor recreation experience in hiking camping backpacking or rock climbing.
  • Preferred - Knowledge of science based curriculum (e.g. forest ecology geology biology).

Education Experience and Certifications

  • Prior experience working in overnight or day camp settings preferably at Keystone Science School or a similar program in a leadership position.
  • Current Wilderness First Aid (WFA) and CPR certifications from an approved vendor or the ability to obtain before the first day of employment (KSS does offer an on-site WFA course before staff training in May at the expense of the individual).
  • Age 20 with an excellent driving record and a valid drivers license.

Physical Requirements

  • Dexterity auditory and visual acuity to operate computers and phones or mobile devices.
  • Auditory and visual acuity to interact with guests sponsors donors and clients on a daily basis.
  • Able to work for long periods of time without break during the conduct of presentations and events.
  • Able to lift 25 lbs. with minimal assistance.
  • Able to successfully manage multiple high priority tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Work Schedule and Environment
This position primarily operates in a high-altitude outdoor environment. Discovery Overnight Camp runs six days a week from Monday through Saturday with Sundays off. Programming occurs both on-campus and in remote off-site locations. Employees will work closely with teammates and campers in this highly collaborative role.
