General Qualifications

The Lead Course Supervisor is aMinisterial position. Ministerial staff render their work stewardship relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association lnc.s (MHA) Christian mission vision beliefs and standards of conduct.

They are responsible for defining cultivating and leading MHAs Christian community conference programs and retreats. All staff join into our community life of prayer worship and spiritual activity including but not limited to staff meetings attendance at programs Bible Study and staff gatherings.

Position Objective

The Adventure Assistant Course Manager provides leadership and direction to the Adventure Programs at the Conference Center. This role ensures guest and employee safety fiscal responsibility and quality program delivery in a manner consistent with MHAs mission vision and values.

Key Job Accountabilities

  • Staff Supervision: Assist the Course Manager in overseeing the training and supervision of employees working on ropes elements including Redwood Canopy Tour Sequoia Aerial Adventure Zayante Discovery Grove Climbing Wall Redwood Camp Ponderosa and Kidder Creek.
  • Operations: Participate in Operations Supervisor duties.
  • Safety & Maintenance: Assist in the oversight of projects maintenance and course inspections to ensure absolute guest and employee safety.
  • Scheduling: Collaborate with the Course Manager and other department managers to schedule forecast and optimize staffing levels.
  • Hospitality Leadership: Lead by example exercising and promoting an attitude of hospitality in all interactions with guests and staff.
  • Construction: Partner with the Adventure Course Manager to lead in-house building projects.
  • General Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Assistant Course Manager assists with direct supervisory responsibilities and has the authority to recommend the following actions to the Course Manager: hiring transferring suspending laying off recalling promoting discharging assigning rewarding or disciplining subordinate employees.

Direct Reports:

  • In-House Inspectors
  • Assist with Adventure Guides and Canopy Tour Guides
  • In-House Maintenance Team

Education/Certifications/Licenses Required

  • College degree and/or significant documented relevant experience required.
  • ACCT Course Manager Certification preferred.

Work Experience

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in adventure/recreation including guiding building and training.
  • Leadership: Documented leadership experience in leading staff groups training and managing major projects or initiatives.
  • Technical: Documented challenge course and/or adventure/recreation programming experience required.
  • Admin: Demonstrated administrative experience required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Communication: Superior written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with staff and guests with courtesy and professionalism.
  • Independence: Ability to establish priorities work independently and thrive in a fastpaced team environment without constant supervision.
  • Judgment: Ability to exercise discretion sound judgment and decisive action when necessary.
  • Tech Proficiency: Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel with the aptitude to learn new software systems.
  • Adaptability: Flexible nature with the ability to change plans with tact and grace.
  • Feedback: Comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Teamwork: Desire to work within and contribute to a positive team setting with diverse people.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Environment: Required to work both indoors and outdoors in inclement weather at heights up to 150ft.
  • Sensory: Required to talk and hear both in person (close and long distances) and via radio.
  • Mobility & Rescue: Requires sitting standing lifting bending climbing squatting and twisting. Must possess the physical ability to rescue a 250 lb. person using high-angle rope rescue techniques.

Additional Requirements/Skills

  • Schedule: Position requires weekends holidays long hours and flexibility for on-call shifts.
  • Driving: Must possess a clean driving record (at least three years) and agree to comply with MHAs guidelines for company and personal vehicle use.
  • Mission Adherence: Adherence to the principles expressed in MHAs mission vision culture code and standards of conduct.
  • Professionalism: Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming.
  • Legal: Satisfactory completion of a background investigation and proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
