Middle School - In-House Substitute Teacher/Homework Club Facilitator

Nueva School is seeking a self-motivated individual to serve as an in-house substitute teacher/homework club facilitator for the middle school division at the school. The in-house substitute teachers work typically centers on implementing lesson plans in a range of classrooms supervising recesses and lunchtimes and supporting other staff on projects or other duties when not in the classroom.

This role supports students in grades 58 during after-school homework time providing supervision academic guidance and a positive learning environment. The ideal candidate is flexible enjoys working with middle school students communicates effectively with colleagues and brings experience with classroom or group management.

This is a full-time role that follows the academic calendar. Typical work hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for the Middle School In-House Sub/Homework Club Facilitator.

A Day in the Life

As an In-House Substitute and Homework Club Facilitator your day supports students across both the academic day and after-school program in a way that is structured relational and student-centered.

During the school day you step into classrooms across a range of grades and subject areas implementing substitute teaching plans and maintaining a respectful calm learning environment. You supervise recess lunch and other duties with close attention to student safety and well-being and you communicate with teachers and staff to ensure continuity and a positive classroom experience. On some days you may also support special projects or serve as a chaperone for middle school day-long field trips.


In the afternoon you transition to facilitating Homework Club where you supervise and support middle school students from 3:15 to 6:00 pm. You create a quiet welcoming and kind space for self-directed learning helping students manage their time and stay focused. On days when students do not have homework you lead activities or games that build community and engagement.

You serve as a key point of contact during Homework Club communicating with families managing attendance and billing documentation coordinating with the security and bus teams for safe pickup and responding to emails through the extended-day program. You manage supplies and materials maintain accurate records and act as the primary responder in any health or safety situation communicating promptly with administrators and support teams as needed.

Throughout the day you are a steady caring presence for studentshelping ensure they feel supported safe and set up for success in both their learning and their relationships.

Primary Responsibilities-- In-House Sub

  • Lead classes and implement substitute teaching plans across a range of grades and subject areas supporting a respectful classroom culture.
  • Supervise recess lunch and additional duties with attention to student safety and well-being and uphold our community expectations with students.
  • Communicate with teachers and staff to support a positive class experience.
  • Assist with other special projects and duties as delegated.
  • Act as a chaperone for middle school day-long field trips
  • Other duties as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities-- Homework Club Facilitator

  • Supervise and support students daily after school as they work on their homework from 3:15-6 pm
  • Communicate with parents to ensure registration is complete and respond to emails
  • Managing the middle school part of the extended day email alias
  • Communicate with the Security and Bus team to ensure students are picked up securely
  • Create a quiet and kind space for students to engage in self-directed learning including creating systems to help students use their time effectively
  • Create and lead activities and provide board games for days when students are in attendance but dont have homework
  • Manage and order supplies and materials
  • Manage the student attendance list and coordinate attendance with the business office
  • Keeping an accurate log of students and their time spent in Homework Club both through CampBrain and a separately-managed spreadsheet for our billing office
  • Being the sole point person in any health emergency in the middle school Homework Club room that may occur between 3:15-6 pm. This also includes communicating with administrators the bus team and security in case of an emergency.
  • Support students between Homework Club and evening events (at least monthly)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent relevant work experience. Bachelors degree preferred but not required.
  • Experience supporting positive classroom management and/or student supervisory experience.
  • Ability to solve problems with creativity professionalism tact and kindness.
  • Ability to manage competing demands and adapt to frequent or unexpected changes.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Creativity in providing projects for students when needed.
  • Personable positive helpful personality.
  • Compassionate empathetic intuitive patient and professional.
  • Maturity judgment and emotional stability

Compensation and Benefits

The full-time equivalent salary range for this position is $79200-$145900. The starting salary is based on but not limited to several factors including type and years of experience education level and expertise.
