Altus is seeking a skilled General Maintenance Worker (GMW) to support facilities equipment and grounds maintenance at Melrose Air Force Range. This role performs a wide range of general preventive and corrective maintenance across multiple trades to ensure safe functional and mission-ready facilities.
If you are hands-on mechanically inclined and comfortable working across buildings equipment and outdoor environments wed love to have you on our this role you will support day-to-day maintenance operations grounds upkeep and repair activities across main and remote range locations.
Primary Responsibilities
Inspect operate or test machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work.
Clean or lubricate shafts bearings gears or other parts of machinery.
Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools and reassemble equipment.
Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly building systems operate efficiently or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
Inspect drives motors and belts check fluid levels replace filters or perform other maintenance actions following checklists.
Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools such as hammers hoists saws drills and wrenches to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
Assemble install or repair wiring electrical or electronic components pipe systems plumbing machinery or equipment.
Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them checking blueprints repair manuals or parts catalogs as necessary.
Dismantle devices to access and remove defective parts using hoists cranes hand tools and power tools.
Plan and lay out repair work using diagrams drawings blueprints maintenance manuals or schematic diagrams.
Order parts supplies and equipment from catalogs and suppliers or obtain them from storerooms.
Adjust functional parts of devices or control instruments using hand tools levels plumb bobs or straightedges.
Paint or repair roofs windows doors floors woodwork plaster drywall or other parts of building structures.
Align and balance new equipment after installation.
Maintain inventory on tools and equipment.
Practice workplace safety.
Perform other duties within or outside the assigned area appropriate for the skills of the employee and the efficient and effective operation of EMI Services.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required;
24 years of related maintenance experience and/or formal vocational or technical training.
Working knowledge of multiple building and utility trades.
Ability to safely use hand tools power tools and diagnostic equipment.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an active operational environment.
Certificates Licenses and Requirements
Valid Drivers License.
Ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
Ability to obtain a herbicide/pesticide license as required by the contract.
Must pass a background check.
Work Conditions
Conditions will vary. Capable of working outdoors in temperatures ranging from 0100 degrees. The position will include regular standing bending reaching sitting walking and lifting. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Overtime may be necessary from time to time depending on workload.
