This position is located at Alexander Correctional Institution in Taylorsville North Carolina.

The Program Coordinator II/Institutional Grievance Officer will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of the Department of Adult Correction Administrative Remedy Procedures/Grievance Program for the assigned prison facility. The policy of the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (DAC) Division of Institutions (DOI) is to provide offenders an opportunity for administrative settlement of legitimate grievances. A quality offender grievance response is essential to the Division of Institutions mission and impacts the outcomes of offender lawsuits. The Institutional Grievance Officer will be assigned to prison facilities with large offender populations to coordinate the increased volume of offender grievances. The position will be responsible for monitoring the grievance program to ensure the process meets Department of Adult Correctional policy requirements. The position will maintain knowledge of the Administrative Remedy Procedures/Grievance Program and consult with staff and offenders to provide guidance in the resolution of concerns/issues. The position will assist with investigating grievance claims by researching and gathering facts for response to the offender. The position will analyze data and complete reports on grievances while demonstrating the ability to organize and complete work assignments with minimal guidance.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Management Preferences:

  • The position requires a thorough working knowledge of the agencys Administrative Remedy Procedure Policy forms utilized in the processing publications and correspondence(s) received from each facility/institution.
  • Must have proficiency in the use of Microsoft applications (Word Excel PowerPoint and Databases).

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC10. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as or lower than their current position. If selected for this position a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience funding availability and internal equity. Based upon these factors a pay increase MAY result.

Bachelors degree from appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
