About the role

The Data Engineer is responsible for designing building and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers analytics machine learning AIdriven products and operational insights across Sigma Groups global event portfolio. This role ensures that data is reliable accessible secure and optimised for both realtime and largescale processing-supporting the unique demands of live events and the fastmoving iGaming ecosystem.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with a passion for data quality automation and scalable architecture. They will play a key role in enabling AI adoption across the organisation by ensuring data pipelines storage systems and processing frameworks are AIready.

Key Responsibilities

Data Pipeline Development & Maintenance

• Designs builds and maintains scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to support analytics reporting and machine learning workloads.
• Integrates data from event platforms CRM systems mobile apps exhibitor tools and thirdparty iGaming systems.
• Ensures pipelines are reliable efficient and optimised for both batch and realtime processing.

Data Architecture & Infrastructure

• Develops and maintain data models schemas and storage solutions that support business intelligence and AI use cases.
• Works with cloudbased data platforms to ensure scalability performance and cost efficiency.
• Implements best practices for data governance lineage cataloguing and documentation.

AI Tooling & AIReady Data Enablement

• Prepares and structures data for machine learning predictive analytics and AIpowered features.
• Collaborates with data scientists and ML engineers to support model training deployment and monitoring.
• Introduces AIassisted data engineering tools such as:
  • automated pipeline optimisation
  • intelligent anomaly detection
  • AIdriven data quality checks
• Ensures data infrastructure supports AIenabled products such as personalised event recommendations predictive event insights and automated content generation.

Events & iGaming Data Support

• Builds data flows that support the unique dynamics of live events including realtime engagement tracking and highvolume data ingestion.
• Supports analytics for attendee behaviour exhibitor performance session engagement and iGamingspecific metrics.
• Ensures data systems can handle traffic spikes during major events and tournaments.

Data Quality Security & Compliance

• Implements data validation monitoring and alerting to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Ensures compliance with dataprivacy regulations and responsiblegaming requirements where applicable.
• Works with security teams to embed securebydesign principles into data systems.

Collaboration & CrossFunctional Support

• Partners with product engineering marketing and event operations teams to understand data needs and deliver scalable solutions.
• Supports business stakeholders with data access tooling and selfservice analytics capabilities.
• Contributes to a culture of data literacy and evidencebased decisionmaking.

Qualifications

Key Skills & Competencies

• Strong proficiency in Python SQL and data engineering frameworks
• Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g. AWS Azure GCP)
• Knowledge of streaming technologies (e.g. Kafka Kinesis Pub/Sub)
• Familiarity with data modelling warehousing and distributed systems
• Understanding of AI/ML data requirements and MLOps concepts
• Strong problemsolving and analytical skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical teams
• Experience with eventdriven architectures or iGaming data is a plus

Preferred Experience

• Educated to degree level in a numerate or technical discipline Masters preferred.
• 5 years of technical experience in data engineering data architecture or related fields
• 1-2 years of management or mentorship experience such as leading projects or guiding junior engineers
• Experience supporting analytics and AI workloads in production environments
• Background working with event data digital engagement data or iGaming systems
• Proven track record of building scalable pipelines and cloudnative data solutions
• Experience introducing AI tooling or supporting AIenabled product development
