Tenure Track Faculty in Optical Engineering for 2026-2027
The Department of Physics Optical Engineering andNanoEngineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology seeks applicants for atenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to support the OpticalEngineering degree program starting August 2026.
Requirements include a Ph.D. degree in optical engineeringoptics photonics or related fields by the time of appointment; a focus onoptical systems design or engineering is preferred. Candidates should have evidenceof or demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching; Outstandingteaching and enthusiasm for delivering individualized attention and support to undergraduatestudents is a significant criterion for success at Rose-Hulman; we are looking for candidates who embrace themission and vision of Rose-Hulman to join our collegial team. Essential job functions include teaching advising andmentoring students continued professional development and providing serviceto the department Institute and professional communities. The successfulcandidate will use effective approaches to teach introductory physics coursesand labs as well as upper division courses in optical engineering includinglab courses. The candidate willreceive mentoring from experienced faculty colleagues to support professionalgrowth and can develop and teach upper-level electives in their area ofexpertise. The successful candidate will join a team of 21 members dedicatedto delivering undergraduate degree programs in physics optical engineering andnanoengineering as well as an M.S. program in optical engineering. Thedepartment also supports several minors and certificates including asemiconductor certificate quantum science computing and engineering minor astronomyminor and a solid-state physics/materials science minor. Active researchprograms include lasers optical fibers nonlinear optics lens designholography optical metrology semiconductors nanotechnology and photonics.
