Job Summary

Subject to formal establishment a vacancy will arise for a FS - TG 1 (A Eng Tech or A Tech W) or TG5 (Gen Eng Tech) or TG 13 (SE Tech) to serve asFlight Sergeant Support Inspector 6 within the RAF Apprenticeships Continuous Improvement Team (ACIT) on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 27 July 2026 (or earlier/later subject to candidate status and formal establishment).

Job Overview

The Continuous Improvement Team provides a programme of RAF-wide support visits to locations delivering the On-The-Job element of RAF Apprenticeships. The purpose of the team is to assess and ensure that all RAF Apprenticeship programmes are at readiness for the next Statutory Inspections by Ofsted. ACIT provide support guidance and assistance in meeting any shortfalls identified and use the Education Inspection Framework (EIF) employed by Ofsted to ensure compliance with government approved apprenticeship practices. Visit programmes currently follow apprentices from completion of Ph2 training into all areas apprentices are employed to undertake their On-The-Job training within the workplace.

Job Description

  • The post holder will be responsible to SO2 Apprenticeship Continuous Improvement Team (SO2 ACIT) to ensure RAF TG1 TG5 & TG 13 Engineering apprenticeship programmes are supported to meet Ofsted EIF requirements and standards.
  • The incumbents position will be located at RAF Apprenticeships Headquarters Quedgelely Court Gloucester with Unit parenting anticipated to be at RAF Brize Norton (subject to successful parenting agreement).
  • There will be a requirement for regular travel including overnight stays at most Main Operating Bases throughout the UK with each Apprenticeship Support Visit (ASV) being scaled to suit the location and size of apprenticeship programme being visited. Most visits are successfully covered in 4-5 days.
  • Whilst travel will be required to ensure all necessary locations are visited work allocation will be tailored to fit within the TCoS of FTRS (LC).
  • The position provides full flexibility for remote working as per JSP750 and all necessary IT resources will be supplied for the successful candidate to support this.
  • Planning and administration of ASVs to assess and establish learner progression against the completion of their Apprenticeship.
  • The successful candidate will act as lead for all Engineering ASVs assigned to them whilst also supporting ASVs being led by other ACIT colleagues.
  • They will also produce subsequent reports and briefs on their findings and work with Units to support any areas for development following any visit.
  • Pre and Post-Visit work such as report writing and research will be completed either in office or whilst working from home.
  • Acting as main point of contact for Aeronautical Engineering Apprenticeship Flight (AEAF) to feed back detailed ASV reports and follow up action logs for any areas requiring improvements against Ofsted EIF.
  • Regularly review AEAF Apprenticeship Self-Assessment Reports (SAR) and Quality Improvement Action Plan (QIAP) to oversee areas of improvement and best practice.
  • Ensure all electronic documents and records are updated reviewed stored and kept secure as necessary.
  • Regular review of On-The-Job training provision and support across Apprenticeship Centres and MOBs to ensure a consistent and sufficient performance and evidence to satisfy the requirements of Ofsted EIF.
  • A structured programme of training will be provided to the successful candidate covering broader assurance work to a nationally recognised standard and contextualised training for the role where required.
