Job Summary

Reports to: IES Abroad London Centre Director (CD)

Scope of Duties:

The Assistant/Associate Director and Dean of Faculty:

  • Exact title to be proposed at time of offer based on experience and expertise.
  • Manages academic program development course development and faculty recruitment and development while working closely with the Centre Director and Assistant Director & Head of Customised Programmes (as related to Customised Programmes) to maintain the highest level of academic excellence and relevance.
  • Together with the SMT (Senior Management Team) deputises as needed for the Director in his absence supporting staff and faculty and providing leadership and help in executing operational duties as required.
  • Works with the Centre Director on strategic issues relating to fostering continued growth on Signature Programmes powered by innovative academic programming and delivery while ensuring strict adherence to global IES Abroad academic policies.
  • Manages faculty recruitment evaluation and professional development collaborating with the Centre Director to select prepare and support faculty.
  • Manages faculty evaluation processes ensuring continuous feedback peer review and adherence to rigorous academic standards.
  • Cultivates inter-team collaboration and a positive working environment across all departments

Responsibilities:

Curricular Development and Faculty Leadership

  • Takes the lead in academic strategic planning advising and helping the Centre Director regarding new course development programs and university partnerships.
  • Works with faculty to update and enhance the curriculum promoting relevant inclusive and strategic curricular offerings and programmes.

Management of Academic Programs

  • Ensures the smooth and successful delivery of programs and courses both within the IES London Centre and working with the Direct Enroll & Academic Programming Manager and our partner institutions for direct-enroll courses.
  • Works to continuously enhance the coherent functioning of the academic department and other units as assigned by the Centre Director including setting the agenda and tasks for members of the academic team.
  • Manages academic issues develops and improves processes and addresses human resources issues as they arise.
  • Serves as line manager to the Academic Manager; oversees and manages Academics Department meetings.

Customised and Faculty Led Programmes (CP):

  • Advises on academic quality and faculty-related matters for CP in coordination with the Assistant Director and Head of CP who leads client delivery and programme design.
  • Provides academic input for CP student matters in consultation with the Assistant Director and Head of CP who manages partner and student communication on faculty led programmes.
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Director and Head of CP on faculty recruitment for customised programmes to ensure alignment of academic standards with client needs.
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Director and Head of CP on induction for faculty teaching on a Customised Programme.
  • Responsible for sharing any changes to budgetary or academic processes as related to London operations allowing for appropriate pricing of CP.
  • Supports wider team by project-managing the delivery of 12 short customised programmes per year adhering to procedures & protocols as outlined by CP Department.

Faculty Recruitment and Evaluation

  • Works closely with the Centre Director & Academic staff to recruit high calibre faculty and organize their training and onboarding process to ensure compliance with IES high standards of teaching.
  • Leads the recruitment and hiring of faculty in alignment with IES Abroads mission ensuring that diverse qualified and experienced candidates are selected.
  • Implements a faculty evaluation framework conducts regular performance reviews classroom observations and providing feedback to support instructional improvement.
  • Manages faculty development: routinely organizes workshops and training to enhance teaching strategies integrate innovative practices and ensure adherence to IES Abroads academic standards.
  • Works with the Centre Director & Academic Manager to align faculty hiring with curricular needs and strategic priorities ensuring the continual development of high-quality educational programs.


Student Academic Issues:

  • Works closely with the SMT to oversee the management of personal and academic student issues with special emphasis on those impacting students academic standing and advising.
  • Intervenes when necessary to ensure correct implementation of IES Abroad academic policies and consults the Centre Director Cluster Dean and Dean of Students when required to ensure correct compliance.
  • Will be responsible for collaboration in administrative and academic review processes.

Centre Academic Management:

  • Executes oversees and coordinates (with appropriate staff) the writing and submission of QAA required reports and documentation for yearly monitoring visits and 4-year Full Reviews to ensure IES Abroad London exceeds standards and expectations.
  • Works with Centre Director on academic related budgeting and general operational matters pertaining to the Academic Department.
  • Organizes regular meetings to coordinate activities and coordinates the planning of general procedural matters including:
  • Academic calendars and course schedules
  • Student absences extenuating circumstance requests academic withdrawals/incompletes and grade reviews and appeals
  • Support the Direct Enroll & Programming Manager with Centre visits by US partner institutions under guidance from the Centre Director and as requested by HQ

Teaching:

  • Based on the Deans expertise and experience the needs of the IES Abroad curriculum and general work capacity the Dean of Faculty may teach a course in their subject area(s) at IES Abroad London each term (always at discretion of the Centre Director). The maximum teaching load per semester will be one class. The compensation for teaching (2.5 hrs instruction 1 hr prep 3.5 hrs weekly) if taking place during regular work hours is included in the the case of class hours outside of set work hours TOIL will be accrued accordingly.

Administrative Work:

  • Participates in program activities (weekend field trips orientation activities farewell activities conferences (upon request) as well as participates in the emergency phone rota etc.) as assigned by Student Affairs; these may be during weekends and after office hours.
  • Is available for consultations by faculty/staff/students during normal office hours unless otherwise engaged (in teaching/class visits/meetings/outside visits).
  • Occasional travel to the USA may be required.

Qualifications:

  • PhD or terminal degree in a relevant field
  • Familiarity with the US educational system
  • At least 7 years teaching experience at the university level
  • Excellent teaching evaluations
  • Excellent communication skills with native or near-native fluency in English
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Academic Management experience
  • HR management leadership and teamwork experience in an intercultural environment
  • High Commitment to Diversity Equity Inclusion and Anti-racism

  • Background check required

Other Skills desired:

  • Knowledge of Moodle and other learning management systems
