The Department
Student Life is a diverse area within NWP and covers departments such as Residence Mental Health Indigenous Services Sport and Fitness and Recruitment. Each department showcases a student first mentality and is passionate about sharing their knowledge skills and abilities with those around them.
The Student Wellness Advisor working with the Mental Health Services Team will collaborate with students in accessing necessary support services and resources during their time at NWP. A significant focus of their work will be on early intervention and prevention support for students mental health. Working with our campus psychologist they will provide support for distress/crisis and deliver basic mental health coping skills and resources to students. This is a full-time term-certain position. Further opportunities regarding budget renewal and/or extension will be discussed with applicants selected for interview.
Responsibility 1: Support Students in Distress -Supportive listening to de-escalate student distress collaborating to make a plan assisting with access of resources.
Responsibility 2: Early Intervention/Prevention Measures -Working with students to self-manage mental health concerns; providing psychoeducation on foundational mental health skills.
Responsibility 3: Mental Health Scheduling -Booking and scheduling of mental health counselling appointments; monitoring mental health phone line.
Responsibility 4: Administrative duties and other duties as assigned.

A bachelors degree in a mental health related field (Psychology Social Work Health Services) and a minimum of two years related work experience is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. Training in ASIST Mental Health First Aid or similar certification for crisis support is an asset.
