Senior Telecommunications Engineer

Oversee the MACs physical infrastructure for handling data video and voice. Act as the MAC Information Technology representative to MAC construction projects. Manage infrastructure projects in conjunction with other departments consultants and contractors. Manage the telecommunications rooms in MAC buildings to ensure standards are met and documentation is maintained.

External Business Frequent contact with multiple vendors ranging from architectural and engineering consultants to contractors to product vendors.

JOB DUTIES

• Design plan and manage the implementation of infrastructure projects in conjunction with Information Technology Airport Development consultant and contractor staff.
• Maintain documentation about MAC infrastructure using appropriate systems.
• Develop standards for communications infrastructure to be included in the MAC Design and Construction Standards.
• Create and publish procedures for accessing MAC telecommunications infrastructure.
• Review and approve applications for MAC Telecommunications permits for the MAC Building Official.
• Inspect work done under MAC Telecommunication permit to see that permit conditions are met.
• Represent the IT department at design and construction meetings for those projects that affect the IT department.
• Write Requests for Proposals Requests for Information or Requests for Bids as needed.
• Serve on Proposal Review Committees forming recommendations to the Commission for awards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

MAC Information Technology Core Competency Requirements

• Maintain technical knowledge regarding infrastructure products and methods as well as project management and documentation methods and tools.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification or ability to obtain within 12 months
• Four years experience planning designing and managing telecommunications infrastructure for a campus-based organization.
• Two years experience preparing system requirements and Requests for Proposals.
• Demonstrated skills in working effectively with consultants architectural engineering and IT staff both individually and in groups to complete telecommunications infrastructure analysis and design projects.
• Demonstrated field experience overseeing telecommunications infrastructure projects including ability to read blueprints inspect work for standards.
• Ability to work on-call/after-hours for incident response and pre-planned critical system cutovers
• Ability to pass TSA Security Threat Assessment and Criminal History check
• Valid drivers license and reliable transportation to commute between job sites.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelors degree in information systems/technology MIS Computer Science Business Administration liberal arts or related fields.
• Five or more years of field experience installing cabling systems in commercial buildings
• BICSI Registered Telecommunication Project Manager (RTPM) and/or Data Center Design Consultant (DCDC) and/or Outside Plant (OSP) and/or Technician (TECH) or equivalent certification(s).
• Network design or administration experience
• Formal training in telecommunications infrastructure for data voice and video.
• Formal training in project management.
