The Lab Engineering Technician II will complete projects and designs for test fixtures needed in the lab in addition to maintaining repairing and improving existing equipment and test fixtures. The technician will also setup up and perform tests on fiber optic cables accessories and connectivity/apparatus products as well as complete training for manufacturing/lab associates and data analysis for various measurements generated from each test.

Responsibilities

  • Setup and perform tests in accordance with industry standards and established test procedures
  • Design/source obtain quote and recommend required lab supplies materials and equipment needed to support the testing of fiber optic cables connectivity and apparatus
  • Configure implement and deploy test fixtures testing apparatus and equipment as required by the test specification and verify their appropriateness
  • Create or revise documents for new and existing practices test methods and equipment to define the process for verifying design intent and test product requirements
  • Record results in test documentation and create templates for data analysis of optical measurements where required
  • Format and compile external (customer facing) test reports based on provided internal test reports containing raw data
  • Repair mechanical equipment and electrical components for lab test equipment and fixtures
  • Select design modify and maintain tooling fixtures and equipment as needed to improve safety quality throughput and productivity
  • Create procedures and train associates to use new test fixtures and equipment as required
  • Perform OTDR usage and test equipment maintenance training for associates as required
  • Learn LabVIEW software functions and create data collection programs for lab tests as needed
  • Work with multiple product lines and have flexibility in work schedule and test diversity
  • Participate on continuous improvements teams to achieve the highest level of test efficiency
  • Interaction with and support for the engineering staff as required

Qualifications

  • 1 years experience in QE Lab or related manufacturing environment required
  • Intermediate proficiency with 3-D CAD software Solidworks is preferred
  • Intermediate proficiency with LabVIEW platform preferred
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment construction/repair preferred
  • Previous work background in fiber optics is ideal
  • Basic project management skills
  • Proficient or Advanced knowledge of Outlook Excel Word and Project
  • Basic understanding of Environment Health and Safety (EHS) management systems to include: general safety rules personal protective equipment hazard recognition behavioral based safety incident reporting requirements and environmental regulations

    Education:

    • Minimum: Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience
